Rolling up early to the Buzzfest for the first time all year. Gotta admit, I’m psyched for this one!

Batum has been much better than expected.
He has bulked up noticeably since we drafted him, and is continuing to add a little bit of weight. Offensively, he isn’t great at anything. He is a slightly below average shooter, but hits a fair amount of his open looks generated from Roy and Aldridge.
He excels at causing disruption on defense. He is fast and can finish on the break off a steal quite proficiently….
He might check Paul for a bit. Not like he’ll do worse than the Blazer point guards.

He does an excellent job providing weakside help.

1. Bowie had leg problems in college, documented. Oden has had a few unrelated injuries.
2. He actually played a long time in the NBA, and was pretty good.
Oden is out of shape and is getting his wind back. He is blocking shots like mad though.
I dunno… he could turn out injury prone. But we don’t know that he is yet.

is the Blazers’ version of Sasha Vujacic, except that he’s actually likeable. And can dunk and stuff.

It was basically the classic addition by subtraction. Z-bo killed our offense and didn’t appreciate Roy telling him off.
Channing Frye is the funniest and best interview of any NBA player though. I want the Blazers to keep him for the interviews.

I've since moved on to implanting the brain of Jerryd Bayless into Greg Oden.
Have you heard about Bayless? He shows up at the gym to work on shooting at seven am, works til midnight with a nap in the afternoon.

The Blazers have 12 players with legitimate talent.
Roy, Oden, Aldridge, Przybilla, Fernandez, Rodriguez, Webster, Outlaw, Bayless, Frye, Blake, and Batum.
There aren’t any minutes on this team for him. Rodriguez plays really well with Rudy… so they man the second unit.
Bayless will fit well with Roy in the future, letting Roy play point on offense and defending the points on defense. At this point, Bayless needs to learn timing and the basics of NBA offenses.. .after that, he will be a good fit with Roy.
I think he’ll see time in December, maybe January.

As raw as Oden is on offense.
He is already really good on the defensive end. Affects a lot of shots… he needs his conditioning back, and once he regains his post-microfracture athleticism, he’ll be good.
Amar’e took a few years to really get back into shape… he is finally back to full potential this year.

He only played around 20 minutes last year, sans-Oden. McMillan only plans to play Oden for thirty minutes, so the speculation is the Blazers will keep Przy for this season and the next.

Both play among the slowest in the league (even though every commentator out there automatically assumes that the Hornets are an “up tempo” team)

Byron Scott has put Peja out there for long stretches against guys like LeBron and Kobe. Even though Peja gets smashed for not being able to play D, he actually does a reasonable job.
I think Byron wanted a longer look at how Devin Brown functioned with Butler and Posey. That might become a staple of the second unit if things go well.
Roy broke him down a few times off the dribble.
But he beat Artest when we played Houston… he is just great at getting by people.
If the Hornets develop a good second unit, they will be so much better.

Rudy has a very legit chance at 6th man with Manu out for this extended period.
I think his odds are around 50-50 on getting one of the two (ROY, 6th man). If Jon Barry keeps talking him up and the rest of the media catches on, he’ll get ROY.
