Can't wait for the game tonight.

If Chandler isn’t at the game, it would obviously be a huge deal for Portland. The one thing Oden has really excelled at is drawing fouls vs. centers… He would eat Hilton alive.

Unless Hilton pulls a Bruce Banner...

…you wouldn’t want to see Hilton when he’s angry.

How do the Hornets do on the back end of Back to Backs?

noticed Paul played 40, West 40 and some. Chandler should be fresh and fatherly

Gl finding the game

Hopefully we have one of those huge 3rd quarters

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:10 PM CST up reply actions

Decent defensive effort, 2nd quarter

Blazers playing a great game thus far. Halftime stats:

eFG: Hornets 50.0, Blazers 61.5
FT/FG: Hornets 11.6, Blazers 5.1
OREB: Hornets 27.8, Blazers 25.0
TOr: Hornets 9.3, Blazers 14.0

So basically we’ve battled to a draw other than eFG% where the Trails are up Huge (6-14 from deep).

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:12 PM CST reply actions

Hmmm.

Pretty good first half, very even. Oden hasn’t been scoring that well, but as a Blazer fan, I am more than pleased with his passing… it’s been good.

Really surprised Paul only has the one assist. He’s been a worldbeater this year. He’ll prolly go off this half.

by Cablinasian on Nov 28, 2008 10:17 PM CST reply actions

His first halves are virtually always slow

Although it’s usually the opposite. He usually has 0-2 pts at half, but 6-7 assists. Still, 3rd quarter is usually his time to go off.

Ramped up offensive rebounding by Portland

New Orleans needs to do a better job of boxing out/getting the boards

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:32 PM CST reply actions

Yeah...

Batum is doing a great job. Rebounding = effort.

Poor foul by Armstrong.

Przybilla had the position… gotta concede that, especially with the Hornets in the penalty.

I think he might be my favorite non Hornet in the league

Horrible third quarter by New O

Stupid loose ball fouls, awful defensive rebounding, and some turnovers to boot. We’ll need a serious turn around from West in the 4th

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:47 PM CST reply actions

What a crazy foul.

Just let him jack it up… it’s rare to hit one of those anyway.

honor rasheed wallace

by Cablinasian on Nov 28, 2008 10:47 PM CST reply actions

That wasn't the Blazers playing well.

it was the Hornets making stupid fouls…

Could it be their fatigue from playing back to back?

honor rasheed wallace

by Cablinasian on Nov 28, 2008 10:48 PM CST reply actions

Still, a lot of them were stupid in the sense

that our guys shouldn’t have even put the refs in a situation to make those calls

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

There were a few sketchy ones.

But the Hornets were trying to get the board when Przybilla had obvious position. But yeah, weird calls going both ways.

by Cablinasian on Nov 28, 2008 10:53 PM CST up reply actions

Blurgh

I will be really mad if this is the decisive run of the game. Horrible loose ball fouls, etc.

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:53 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah.

Since he and Chandler left they have been so out of sync.

Beautiful

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 10:57 PM CST up reply actions

It all seems to have coincided with Chandler's fourth foul

Since then it’s been easy to get into the paint.

Oh, for sure.

The Blazers have played decent basketball. But the Hornets are giving the game way.

Sean Marks

Leads the comeback effort.

by Junsier on Nov 28, 2008 11:01 PM CST reply actions

Yeah right

Hornets can’t guard anyone right now. This game’s pretty much over

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 11:02 PM CST up reply actions

Game over.

I can’t watch this pathetic excuse of a defensive effort any more. Recap later. Maybe.

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 11:05 PM CST reply actions

No excuse

Hornets lost this game due to a total lack of discipline more than anything else.

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 11:06 PM CST up reply actions

That was damn honest.

But the potential is still there and I will reserve judgment until the end of April.

by Bust a Bucket on Nov 28, 2008 11:33 PM CST up reply actions

I wish I could say that

I usually get super down after losses though. In my current state of mind, I can envision the Hornets missing the playoffs.

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 11:36 PM CST up reply actions

haha

Now “missing the playoffs” is not on my radar.

Sean Marks

To all of the Hornets fans out there, just wanted to state what kind of basketball player Sean Marks is. Living in NZ, I have probably watched more games with Marks playing (in the Olympics, in NZ and NBA) than most of you. Marks is not a typical NBA forward/centre (excuse my spelling..I live in NZ you see) which is why some Hornets fans are wondering..“why the hell is he shooting 3s”. However, he does have the ability to shoot threes extremely effectively and when playing international ball was reliable with the 18-foot jumpshots. Marks is experienced, although he has had limited time, with a championship ring under his belt with the SA Spurs and Tim Duncan as his former training partner. If you guys wanna see a little of Marks, check this video out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYRW2VGLD9k

by JChangNZ on Nov 28, 2008 11:47 PM CST reply actions

Thanks JChangNZ

Cool video also. My gripe isn’t that Marks is shooting, per se (he has nice form and seems like a decent shooter). It’s that guys like Peja were on fire tonight, but instead of going to Peja, Byron went to Marks in Marks’ second game of the season. Very few players could step in cold like that (after not playing for such a long time) and be expected to knock down such huge shots, no matter how good a shooter they are. Hope that makes sense

by Rohan on Nov 28, 2008 11:52 PM CST up reply actions

Agree

No problem. I totally understand where you’re coming from and yes, I agree 100%. As much as I want to see Marks play (being he and I are both NZers), I believe Marks needs to play more minutes to gain experience BUT not when it comes down to crunch-time (of course, if he shows that he is able to be a clutch-shooter, which not many NBA forwards are, he should play). Peja should’ve been out there, and maybe Wright instead of Marks for defence. Watching the Hornets defence today, it seemed like they lacked discipline (plus weird foul calls?). If you wanna know anything else about Marks, don’t hesitate to ask.
Just on another note, I’ve enjoyed your website ever since Marks signed with Hornets and keep up the good work! Any news on Marks, please contact me. Because of the time difference (we’re around 19 hours ahead), sometimes I miss the games.

by JChangNZ on Nov 29, 2008 12:05 AM CST up reply actions

Definitely will

I’m thinking I’ll do a bit of an extended post on Marks some time soon since Byron Scott seems to like him in the rotation now. I’ll definitely shoot you some Q’s. By the way are there any other NZ’ers in the NBA?

by Rohan on Nov 29, 2008 12:15 AM CST up reply actions

NZers in NBA

As most people know, NZ is NOT famous for players in the NBA but for rugby – All Blacks. However, one other player has made the NBA a few years back by the name of Kirk Penney (he graduated from the high school I currently attend – Westlake Boys’ High School – one of the best sporting schools in NZ haha and national secondary school basketball champions for the past for years, including when Penney was there). Penney played for the Miami Heat for a short time before deciding to switch to Euroleague, where you played for the top team I believe. Currently, he is now playing for the NZ Breakers (not the national basketball team – the Tall Blacks is the national basketball team, coming 4th in the 2002 World Championships) a top-of the table team in the Australian Basketball League where he is the leading scorer in the league.

by JChangNZ on Nov 29, 2008 12:20 AM CST reply actions

Hmm

Didn’t realize NZ finished 4th at the WBC, which is a pretty impressive feat. Also, wasn’t there some talk of the Australian Basketball League folding? Or maybe I’m getting that confused with something else. In general, what’s the overlap like between NZ and Australia? Do good NZ players like to jump over to AUS, or there’s a solid NZ league?

by Rohan on Nov 29, 2008 12:25 AM CST up reply actions

Not quite sure about the ANBL folding? NZ doesn’t tend to have to many great basketball players, but a common trend is many have potential to play in the US (likewise with the Aussies) but don’t go there. NZ does not have a solid or high-quality league (as embarassing as that may seem – basketball is considered a minor sport here), although we do have a league. As with NZ players jumping over to Aus, the only league in Aus is the ANBL in which NZ players are signed with various teams in Aus (i.e. NZ players don’t choose to jump over to Aussie, however they get signed by another team).

by JChangNZ on Nov 29, 2008 12:31 AM CST reply actions

Good stuff

I always wished ESPN would show more international ball- the Australian/NZ guys, the Euroleague, etc. So much great basketball is being played around the world that we just can’t get in the U.S.

by Rohan on Nov 29, 2008 1:11 AM CST up reply actions

Quality of Intl Ball

Trust me, ANBL is not all that exciting – not missing out on much You don’t get Euroleague there? (maybe it’s just ESPN here in NZ that gets it.)

by JChangNZ on Nov 29, 2008 1:20 AM CST reply actions

Yeah, Euroleague is pretty much never broadcast

ESPN360 has games some times, but no actual TV provider gives it.
