Trade Solutions

I think these are all moves that could easily be made and would improve as soon as these guys got used to each other if not sooner. They are all in my opinion realistic moves, but there are afew character concerns.

1) Trade Mo Pete for Jamaal Tinsley

2) Trade Mike James and a 2nd for Etan Thomas

3) Trade our first round pick and Hilton Armstrong for Rashad McCants.

These are all moves that are more then doable with the one iffy being whether we would be willing to trade MoPete so soon after signing him. People often say that you can't trade two consecutive first rounders but I think that you only can't trade them at the same time. Phoenix definitely traded consecutive first rounders, they just waited till the season started to do it.

We get a real point guard capable of distributing the ball, and keeping the offense in flow, and also capable for giving CP real rest. Tinsley has had his problems in Indy, but the dude can play ball. Devin is a more then adequate 3rd string point/ wing.

We get a gritty big man who defends and rebound well. He also commits fewer fouls and penalties then Hilton. Etan does what Hilton does only better, more efficiently, and without getting muscled out of the paint. Time to end the Hilton experiment.

We get a shot creator who can light it up from all over the floor. (Don't let his low percentages fool you, this kid can shoot the three, and he is good at attacking the rim. He's just starting slow.)

Some might think the first rounder is excessive for Shaddy, but we couldn't afford to sign the first rounder anyway, especially if we want to resign Shaddy, which we would because he would be perfect for us.

This gives us the depth that we need in order to take on the big boys for the next three years.

Interesting ideas

My thoughts on those:

1) Yeah, I agree, I think trading Mo-Pete so soon would be iffy. Given how well he’s taken his relegation to the bench late in games, his slashing of minutes to acommodate surrounding players, and his willing reduction of his own game for the benefit of the team, I think it would be a real low blow. It could definitely impact how prospective free agents look at the Hornets organization in the future. If I’m the GM, I don’t move him. Plus, Tinsley’s turnover rates are much too high for my liking, though he does bring the much needed passing aspect.

2) Hmmm. Washington gets an expiring contract and a young piece in return for us taking on 2 years and 13 million dollars. Definitely some incentive for them to do it. Thomas has been a really solid rebounder throughout his career. I guess the only iffy point would be his health concerns, coming off his heart issues. But this would be a solid deal.

3) As far as I can tell, Phoenix traded away a 2008 first rounder, a 2009 second rounder, and a 2010 first rounder. So I’m pretty sure you can’t ever trade away consecutive firsts (the Ted Stepian Rule), regardless of when the trades occur. I’m not really sold on Rashad though. We already have something of a logjam at G/F in Brown/Wright/Butler and I don’t think McCants really adds that much over them.

Some good points but...

You have to remember that making such a drastic change through the season the team is going to go through MAJOR chemistry changes. For instance Posey would have to adjust to working with another new set of guys (not that he hasnt done that often). And overall the team alters majorly.

I think your right in the respect that we need a good backup ballhandler. But dont throw Mike James out the window. I think what Mike needs to do is chill on the shooting and distribute the ball more.

Overall good ideas but unless we fall majorly in the next 20-30 games I wouldn’t bet on it.

How about signing Darrell Armstrong to a 10 day contract in January? See if he has enough left to help out. He still looked a serviceable player in New Jersey.

Maybe acquire Travis Diener as a stopgap signing until next season. He’s not playing with the Pacers and I think they’d consider moving him for an expiring contract. I think he only makes about $1.5mil so that’s easy to handle.

Javaris Crittenton in Memphis is a prospect I like a lot. I’d be willing to give up a first round pick to snare him.

With Sessions and Ridnour playing so well, would Ty Lue be available? I don’t like Lue but he’s serviceable.

I think any of those guys would work

I mean all we really need is a guy who can dribble and pass the ball. Nothing fancy, all those guys can get it done probably.

Those are some good ideas

I definitely agree about Lue, and Diener. I’m also wondering whether or not Marcus Banks would work. He isnt very good, but he is better then Pargo was last year.

Also, I just checked on the G. State site. I was wondering what it would take to get Maggette. Most agreed that they would take Mike, Juju and a future pick. I love juju, but I think that move is fair. The thing about Maggette is that he would negate the need for a point back up point because he would essentially be the backup offense, and wouldnt need an initiator. Also, the offensive sets would be simple. Give Corey the ball and let him get buckets. More effective and efficient then what we do now.

Another guy I like alot for what we need as far as backup bigs is Shelden Williams. He is as good a defender as Hilton but he rebounds better fouls less and turns the ball over less. He also has some bulk although he is shorter then Hilt. Hed beavailable for cheap I think because they already have the bigs they need.

I love Maggette

But tossing that draft pick might be a bit steep. Maybe a 2nd rounder? Shelden would be awesome to get as well.

Yup

Actually, notthat its a sign of things to come, but judging from the Warriors fans , you might be bale to get it done with just a first rounder, or just juju.
