With draft workouts more than a week underway, there are two very interesting trends. First, numerous mocks that had us picking a big now have us picking a wing. The above chart is dominated by the likes of Lee, CDR, and Walker; even Wayne Ellington makes an appearance. The second thing that stands out is how much CDR has dropped in numerous mocks. About a month ago, virtually everyone had him as a lock top-20 selection. Now with a few workouts over, not so much. I think it's not his fault as much as it's other prospects doing very well in their workouts. My gut feeling is CDR won't drop to us. If he does, (a) we're very lucky, and (b) he's the definite choice above Lee, Walker, et al. if we draft a wing first.

I was expecting CDR to fall as a result of the workout process. Being a good, but not incredible, athelete, he won’t be able to wow GMs who are looking for athletic freaks who can also hit the jumpshot. Usually, that’s what passes for “potential” in the draft. If that guy can jump out of the gym, he could become a real good jumper who can shoot with time. Feh.

CDR is Mo Pete with a smoother handle.

I had just always assumed that people would remember just how effective he was in college and recognize most of his game is easily transferrable. Oh well – if that allows him to land in our laps I’d be happy.

An off-season of spending our free money on Pargo and one more big man, and drafting CDR? I’d be happy with that.

I expected CDR to drop too

but not this much. Pargo+CDR+Julian+Bonzi+Melvin+Hilton+New Big Man would be pretty great even without a new big. Julian’s only going to get better, and Bonzi will contribute much more once he gets more acclimated to the offense.

Also, this looks like it’s shaping up to be two of the following three: Bonzi, Bird, or Big Man. Provided we keep the 27th pick, one of those guys will probably be gone either from the team or from the regular rotation.
