Big Game

For the most inconsistent team in the NBA.

by Grayson on Jan 31, 2009 6:07 PM CST reply actions

Oh My

Marks is in the game..I’m really scared

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 7:54 PM CST reply actions

Look how quick

Pop calls timeouts. And they adjust what they do every single time. Byron needs to do that. THis team can’t play through it that well.

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 8:15 PM CST reply actions

And Brown

causes Pop to call another timeout

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

Well, it had to even out at some point

He’s definitely not a 19% three point shooter. He still needs to shoot smarter shots, but it was gonna even out eventually

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 8:21 PM CST up reply actions

Oh my bad..this play-by-play is unreliable

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 8:17 PM CST up reply actions

Is Chris Paul injured or something?

NINE minutes without him?? Is Byron Scott insane????

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 8:27 PM CST reply actions

He knows he'll have to play the whole second half

But any other coach would’ve called a timeout to get him in. Not Byron

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 8:28 PM CST up reply actions

Absolutely ridiculous

It’s not like Antonio has been bad or anything… but you just benched perhaps THE BEST PLAYER IN THE ENTIRE NBA FOR NINE MINUTES.

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 8:28 PM CST up reply actions

Turnovers

Turnovers, turnovers.
They are getting in their own way.

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 8:27 PM CST reply actions

Although..isn’t it a travel if you fall down, get the ball and then stand back up with it again?

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 8:32 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah…the NBA website says:
Section XIV-Traveling
g. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor.

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 8:45 PM CST up reply actions

No he fell got up with the ball and tossed it behind him.

Why the hornets didn’t crowd him I dont know. They all just backed away

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

I'm pretty happy with where we are right now

We’re not down too much..and the score could easily be turned around. Let’s hope some of D-West’s shots start falling and that we can continue to play with, if not, more energy

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 8:40 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, pretty much agreed

8 is a very manageable deficit. West is definitely rusty… he missed atleast two jumpers where he was wide open.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

I wonder if the Hornets can come out strong in the third quarter.

In the playoffs last year we would stay close in S.A. for the first half and completely fall apart in the third quarter. I wonder if that’s still in their minds. I hope not.

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Jan 31, 2009 8:40 PM CST reply actions

Hopefully they won't come out flat. CP3s gotta keep looking for his because D-West is still a little rusty.

And if he’s not effective then teams sag off Peja and Sual and Posey so then our offense absolutely collapses

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Jan 31, 2009 8:43 PM CST reply actions

My Gosh

That must’ve been a foul on Parker

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 8:57 PM CST reply actions

Eh

We’re getting owned

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 8:59 PM CST up reply actions

I meant like..Parker committed a foul on CP3

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:00 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah..and the only way to teach them is to put these people with emotional issues on the bench until they learn. You can’t play well if you’re all emotional…unless if you’re like Kobe..but then..you’d just be crazy if you were him

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:01 PM CST up reply actions

LOL

At least Timmy saved CP3 from cracking his head on the floor…that looked funny..

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:05 PM CST reply actions

Probably game, unless something crazy happens

Spurs have outplayed us in pretty much every way possible

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:07 PM CST reply actions

Yep

We really are getting owned. The Spurs look you expect the Spurs to look. Balanced, effective offense and defense… no dumb mistakes, hitting shots. Plenty of time for things to turn around but things will have to change drastically for that to happen.

On another note: this might be a stupid question… but why do we so rarely rotate the ball around the perimeter? Is it because of the pick & roll heavy offense? We have so many shooters, why not get them around the perimeter and have quick ball movement set up shots. The spurs do it all the time. The Knicks killed us with it. Instead we rely primarily on the kickout and or the fast break/transition to get threes.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

That's really on Byron Scott

He’s steadfastly refused to adapt this year, going with what worked last year. Problem is, defenses change too. Every team in the league knows that New Orleans runs pick and roll on every play. Defend one play, and you’re done for the night.

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:12 PM CST up reply actions

This games feels like it's about over

I’ve had enough of Bonner shooting threes. Let’s put Sean Marks in…F-C Show Down

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:08 PM CST reply actions

Marks for the threes..=D

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

They are not focused on the game

but on the refs. They can’t stay in this game with the way the spurs are hitting 3s. And they aren’t hitting any. I hate the way they melt against the Spurs

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 9:10 PM CST up reply actions

CP3

Come on..2 in a row..let’s go!

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:15 PM CST reply actions

Manageable deficit again...

Thanks to Paul’s threes and his masterful flop! The student has become the teacher… haha.

Now we just have to actually manage this manageable deficit… but I admit I’m not optimistic.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:18 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

With no interior defender next to West, this game will be tough to pull out. No matter how crazy Paul is at offense.

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

Too bad screens don’t get credited as assists =(…poor Marks

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:23 PM CST up reply actions

Wow

Paul is trying to take this one over…. that 33% mark will be going up tonight. IF the team can play solid defense and not turn the ball over this could turn around.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:23 PM CST reply actions

Chris is playing mad right now.

I don’t care if he has to score every time down ala AI and the rest of the team just defends.

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 9:23 PM CST reply actions

Yup..just keep setting up the pick and pop/rolls..create some space..he seems hot right now

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:23 PM CST up reply actions

And Byron sits him. Sigh

I know he needs rest but its not a good idea.

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 9:25 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

Just uh… yeah. I’m flabbergasted. To quote Ben Wallace… it’s a shamockery.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:28 PM CST up reply actions

Byron Scott .

Wow….

Did he just give up? Seriously?

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:30 PM CST reply actions

Well..whatever he's doing..we can't do anything about it

Let’s just watch the rest of the guys play..on a brighter note….

what brighter note?!

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:31 PM CST reply actions

NO

I’m too mad. I think we should all rant about this for a long time… seriously.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:37 PM CST up reply actions

Is Scott trying to make some statement to the team...

About how other guys besides Paul have to win games? Because otherwise, why would Paul not be playing, especially after hitting trey after trey and getting the team back in the game…

It’s not his style to do thing like that… so my conclusion, is that Byron Scott is a freaking idiot and I hate him.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:31 PM CST reply actions

Byrons an idiot. I cannot believe him. Absolutely absurd. Stupidest move ever in his life.

CP3 single handely brings this team back in the game and is the only one who can score right now so Byron takes him out. Best case scenario is we are able to tie/take the lead while riding CP3. Worst case is the lead just gets to big and Byron could take him out NOW not when we were drawing closer and closer. I would rather have Vinny Del Negro as our coach right now. Unbelievable coaching decision. Did you guys see CP3’s face when he was on the bench. He was so pissed off. Unbelievable.

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Jan 31, 2009 9:32 PM CST reply actions

Yay!

Chris Paul gets in the game! With 4 minutes left! Great job Byron!

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:33 PM CST reply actions

And is still on fire...

Hmm… I wonder if those minutes he missed could have made a difference. Probably!

What the hell…

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:36 PM CST up reply actions

Bah

The way he’s shooting I’d say the chances of him making a shot right now are higher than anyone else.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:37 PM CST up reply actions

Other guys have had their chance and failed, screw them.

But its too late. Bryon blew this game.

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Jan 31, 2009 9:38 PM CST up reply actions

Wouldn't blame it all on Byron

The players are awful too, West is bad, Posey, Peja all others are bad.

New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.

by Grayson on Jan 31, 2009 9:39 PM CST up reply actions

Can’t completely blame him. The team didn’t play well enough in the first half, and we wouldn’t have been in this situation if we had played better

by JChangNZ on Jan 31, 2009 9:44 PM CST up reply actions

Peja was barely involved!

He hardly a chance to be either bad or good. West and Posey were both mixed bags…
but its Byron who made the dumbest decision of the game.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:43 PM CST up reply actions

Game is over...

There is no one on this team other than Paul that can make shots….or get defensive stops….

New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.

by Grayson on Jan 31, 2009 9:37 PM CST reply actions

There is noise that he is more hurt than being let on

and if that’s true, I fear for him wearing down at the end. This team totally depends on him and as tough as he is he can only do so much. Peja 2-6, David 8-21 ( I know he’s just getting a rhythm) other people 1-4 or 1-5. It’s just not enough.

by RonD on Jan 31, 2009 9:50 PM CST up reply actions

Recap up

Feel free to keep up the ranting over there…

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:45 PM CST reply actions

No...

As mad as I am…. and this is as upset with Scott as I’ve ever been, no. That would not be wise.

by Caleb462 on Jan 31, 2009 9:49 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed

If we canned Byron right now, who steps in? And what guarantee do we have that they’ll run a more complex offense? At the very least, Byron seems to have the respect of the guys and he’s good at identifying what improvements can be made at the individual level (getting West to develop the jump shot, etc.). He has serious flaws this year, but it would not be wise.

by Rohan on Jan 31, 2009 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

Hmm...

Well I agree that Byron isn’t managing the games very well but I think the players have to do something. Looking at other teams they have this understanding of what to do, this “feel” if you will. When certain players are knocking down their shots you change your plays towards them or adjust on the fly. It just seems that we force so much like the D.West post up which restricts movement on the floor which is something that this team used to be good at. Defensively Chandler is a huge lose, his shot block precense makes players stay out of the key. So I wouldn’t blame it all on Byron but we have to start rethinking what we are doing.
