Mo-Pete Will Start, Folks
Morris Peterson has started the first two preseason games at shooting guard, scoring 16 points on 13 shots, including 5 for 9 on threes. Now, granted the preseason means absolutely nothing... but the rest of the Hornets' presumed starters (minus the injured Okafor) all started. So I assumed that Mo being out there was just a confirmation of his starting role.
The Times-Pic didn't portray it in as certain a light today, with their article "Mo-Pete Fighting To Retain Starting Spot."
The overall premise is that with Peja Stojakovic's move to the SG position, it's a three horse race between Mo, Peja, and Marcus Thornton.
Now I'm all for job competition and all that... but let's be honest here. Are Peja or Marcus going to guard Kobe Bryant? Tracy McGrady? Manu Ginobili? Kevin Martin? Dwayne Wade?
It's not official, but it's kinda official.

unfortunately need a SG
I was hoping someone like Von Wafer, Rashard McCants could have been signed because anyone would be a clear upgrade over those Mo-Pete. I don’t understand Peja as the backup SG. I was hoping the team would go small with Diogu at C, Peja at PF, Posey at SF, Thornton at SG, and Collison at PG
HEY, IT's THE BUM FROM THE DARK! GET A JOB YOU BUM!

I really don't think we need another SG.
With Emeka, West, CP, and Wright/Peja, there will be plenty of shots being taken. We need someone to camp on the line and spread out the defense. Thus, Mo Pete. I totally agree with atthehive, the Times Pic posting that there is any competition between 24 and anyone else just shows they don’t understand the game or Byron. As mentioned above, Peja cannot match most 2s defensively (no knock on his defense, it’s just not his position), and Thornton is a rookie. And as an additional thought Devin Brown, a two-guard, is well, Devin Brown.
Mo Pete will start. And we should be happy about it.

Not buying your logic
Dude, did you see Thornton play at LSU? He’s a great offensive player and very solid on the defensive end. Sure, Peja is old and gimpy, but he won’t win the job anyway, since they need him as insurance in case Julian Wright turns into a pumpkin.
Mo Pete is extra driven heading into the season, but we all know he’s like the original coming of Jared Jeffries. All defense, no offense.
Thornton is the better player with more upside and a long, bright career ahead of him. Even if Mo starts the season in the first five, by the ASB it’ll be Thornton’s show. Remember I said that.

MoPete is horrible. Having to start him is a sign of how the offseason went.
I’d rather start a rookie. Also, why is Emeka not playing right now?
