Game 10: Portland v. New Orleans

                                  Game10_medium

Star-divide

Might as well kick off an open thread for the game tonight.  So Scott's been replaced by the Flower regime (FLOyd/BoWER)  Let's see if the Hornets can up the effort a bit against a tough Portland squad.  Firing coaches usually makes this happen, right?  Also, let's see how many differences we spot tonight.  Rotations.  Minutes.  Plays.  Etc.  Don't naturally expect too much but I'd be nice just to see a few things. Geaux Hornets!

Thanks for the Game Thread haha

Looks like they tipped a bit early..

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 6:54 PM CST reply actions

Or not...

Yahoo! Sports says the tip already happened and the Hornets call timeout 5 seconds in.

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 6:55 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah weird

Just fired up League Pass and still shoot around

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 7:07 PM CST up reply actions

Following Portland, here is the key:

If Oden is in foul trouble, they lose games. If Oden keeps his 21 PER on the floor, they win games.

Oden has been incredible on defense, leads the league in block rate. Rebound rates are high and he’s even been doing well in the post. All he really has is a power move, but teams still double team him and he’s pretty good at passing back out.

He is so easy to get into foul trouble though. He has a bad rep with the refs, so any call that is 50/50 will go against him. If CP3 drives into him he’ll get a call. Ah, the problems of a young big.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:12 PM CST up reply actions

I should also say that his foul problems are also his own darn fault. He lowers the arms… big no no.

uh oh, Hilton.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:18 PM CST reply actions

oh, Marks.

UGHHHH

Freakin CST doesn’t have the game. I hate this. Wish I would have known ahead of time, dammit.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 7:19 PM CST reply actions

Devin Brown

is unbelievably bad.

And yet he takes every shot.

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 7:20 PM CST reply actions

seriously. on a team with Chris Paul, Devin Brown is shooting.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:21 PM CST up reply actions

Sean Marks..

His stat line looks good so far..how’s he looking?

by JChangNZ on Nov 13, 2009 7:21 PM CST reply actions

Haha..

Must be the nerves..first season game back from “injury”

by JChangNZ on Nov 13, 2009 7:23 PM CST up reply actions

CP is about to put on a show.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:25 PM CST reply actions

This is

the ugliest game I’ve seen in years. At least since our 2005 season.

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 7:29 PM CST reply actions

Yeah

But the crazy thing is that Portland somehow looks nearly as bad!

by Caleb462 on Nov 13, 2009 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

this is their problem on the road. They are a terrible first half team on the road.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

This is...

a very low scoring quarter…what’s going on?

by JChangNZ on Nov 13, 2009 7:29 PM CST reply actions

Brickfest

No one cant hit a shot, or even a layup, on either team.

by Caleb462 on Nov 13, 2009 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

Brandon Roy and Chris Paul are scrubs.

-small sample size committee.

Will be interesting to see how the Hornets handle the Fernandez-Bayless backcourt.

free bayless

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:30 PM CST reply actions

Bayless has a >10 foul rate per 36. CP has to drive on him.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:34 PM CST reply actions

I wonder..

Will we go from one of the highest scoring defeats to one of the lowest scoring wins? Lol

by JChangNZ on Nov 13, 2009 7:34 PM CST reply actions

Thank God for Gerry V

Though listening on Radio is not the same

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 7:37 PM CST reply actions

True

I love listening on radio too. Just a unique experience of the game

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 7:38 PM CST up reply actions

I prefer listening to the radio

But it’s usually in addition to watching the game. No visual is killing me.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 7:40 PM CST up reply actions

Hmm

Anyone that watches on LP, is there a way to listen to radio audio with muted video at the same time?

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 7:41 PM CST up reply actions

two separate tabs of LP.

Thornton defines player that kills Blazers continually. Keep going to him.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:46 PM CST reply actions

I must be watching a Spanish feed...

Because every break they go start going to clips of Pau and Marc Gasol. Haha, its pretty sweet.

by Caleb462 on Nov 13, 2009 7:48 PM CST reply actions

Lol same here..

But damn NZ internet is killing me…

by JChangNZ on Nov 13, 2009 7:48 PM CST up reply actions

No no..

My internet has decided to show up =)

by JChangNZ on Nov 13, 2009 7:53 PM CST up reply actions

Okay these Portland commentators have no idea who Thornton is...

First they say that he hasn’t played yet all season, then they say that he wasn’t a great scorer in college? Say what?

by Caleb462 on Nov 13, 2009 7:51 PM CST reply actions

Haha

Glad I switched over to Sean K and Gerry V. Easily my favorite way to listen to a game… they pretty much just call the game and stay out of the opinion business for the most part.

Wish more guys did this.

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 7:54 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

It’s nice to have Gerry not afraid to criticize the Hornets, and to not bash the other team constantly. Gil kills me with that.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 7:56 PM CST up reply actions

haha that's what got him drafted.

What did they think it was? He’s a 6’4" SG

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 7:54 PM CST up reply actions

in his defense, Mike Rice has enough on his plate just trying to remember the Blazers’ names.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

Heh

Well guys who dont know their stuff, when its their job to know their stuff… really bother me.

by Caleb462 on Nov 13, 2009 7:58 PM CST up reply actions

I just tuned in

Did not expect to see Thorton 11; Paul 0. What’s been going on?

I'm proud of my damn strong football team. Have a great day!

by Mikethetiger on Nov 13, 2009 7:57 PM CST reply actions

Paul really struggling with his shot and slipping a lot

Thornton just came in and shot the lights out on good shots.

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

surprisingly Andre Miller is actually interested in defense today. This is odd.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

Did Bobby Brown flip on some Bobby Brown when he heard Byron was fired? Man, that musta sucked for him.

free bayless

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 8:03 PM CST reply actions

Okafor

Not playing a bunch of minutes. Weird. Not complaining b/c Marks looks good, but still.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 8:06 PM CST reply actions

saving him for when Oden is in.

free bayless

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 8:07 PM CST up reply actions

Not a bad move

Oden looks sooo much better than last time we played him. Just way more assertive on the block.

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 8:08 PM CST up reply actions

the offense is better. But it’s the pick and roll defense that is the biggest change. He was SOOOO bad at defending it last year. Now, he shades to the ballhandler and recovers every time.

He wasn’t allowed to work out his legs until this summer, so he was unbalanced last year. Had no agility.

by Cablinasian on Nov 13, 2009 8:09 PM CST up reply actions

Hey hey

CP3 on the board!

I'm proud of my damn strong football team. Have a great day!

by Mikethetiger on Nov 13, 2009 8:06 PM CST reply actions

Is it just me

Or are we calling… like, no timeouts this game?

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 8:08 PM CST reply actions

it’s like watching two people play 2k10 for the first time.

“oooh, that’s the PASS button… ooooh, I push that stick to shoot the ball… Nonononono, I just pressed pass instead of layup…”

UGLY.

How was

Chris Paul not loose-ball fouled there?

Ughhh

by Rohan on Nov 13, 2009 8:10 PM CST reply actions

Buckets

should be first off the bench, if not starting the 3rd. We need to start off strong. I’m scared of 3rd quarters.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 8:12 PM CST reply actions

Ok guys

just hear me out…CP3/Devin – Byron Scott’s golfing buddies – throwing the game tonight?

David West playing tough – coincidence?

I'm no commie, but the Reds shall be the best again!

by RedHopeful on Nov 13, 2009 8:26 PM CST reply actions

No

Devin didn’t make shots when Byron was coach either, Chris is too much of a competitor, and well probably for West but that’s not a bad thing.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 8:30 PM CST up reply actions

Hehe

I’m kidding but the boxscore seems to prove my theory. :)

I'm sorry Hronets fans.

I love Chris Paul’s game so I really hate to see that.

Praying

that it’s not as bad as it looks.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 9:00 PM CST reply actions

Pretty sure Blazer fans everywhere are pulling for CP3. We all love that guy.

Hopefully it’s just a strain, and he’ll be back in a few days or even this game. Sprains can be 2-6 weeks depending on the location of the sprain.

by dario argento on Nov 13, 2009 9:00 PM CST reply actions

like u guys said

let’s hope it’s just another sprain…

yeah - don't get it

he looked solid a few games again

I'm no commie, but the Reds shall be the best again!

by RedHopeful on Nov 13, 2009 9:18 PM CST up reply actions

Put Marks back in

He’ll foul out but at least he tries to block out dammit.

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 9:17 PM CST reply actions

Anybody else notice

that the Blazers only run was made when we had our starting 5 out there?

by LSUhornet on Nov 13, 2009 9:38 PM CST reply actions

Best wishes to Chris Paul

Blazer fan here wanting to say hope CP is ok. Lotta respect for the Hornets and Hive.

And if you ever want to sell him for 70 cents on a dollar, please think of us.

Sorry about CP3.

Looks like you’ve got a couple good guards on the bench though. You’ll be OK.

I can't believe what has happened to the Hornets

Shinn needs a new GM asap. I hope Paul will be back soon.

Best wishes from OKC.

sorry about Paul

I wish your Rookie guards could carry the load without Paul. They seem to play well last night. A really feel bad for Paul. First, lossing his coach. now, getting injured.
