C'mon Hornets

let’s beat Houston and get the sixth seed.

If I'm doing the math right

A win today and a loss tomorrow (@SA) would ensure that we play SA in the first round, which would be great.

by Rohan on Apr 13, 2009 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions

that

would be a very nice first round matchup.

It’s assuming that the Spurs win in Golden State, though.

This Ely on Yao

is definitely not going to work. I wonder how long till the double comes.

20-17

I like.

by Cablinasian on Apr 13, 2009 8:02 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed.

Lots of hustle, lots of grit. And CP’s got the pick and roll running to perfection with both Marks and Ely. Obviously, they saw on film TC did well with that against the Rockets and they want to keep doing it now.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 8:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Melvin is not being a total slob on the court. Nice.

This whole not playing Hilton is really working out for me.

Marks vs. Yao

otherwise known as the unstoppable force vs. the immovable object.

James Posey is alive?

Weird. Hadn’t seen him for a while. Assumed the worst.

Tuning up for the playoffs.

Posey looking like Dirk out there. Nice to see.

no human

That is not right

I am female, and Posey is about 5 times better looking.

I have to say

Byron’s done a great job with the gameplan for tonight. The Yao doubling strategy is perfect, the iso’ing Posey on Landry is going well, and the Sean Marks roll off West screens for Paul is a new wrinkle. Great stuff.

by Rohan on Apr 13, 2009 8:14 PM CDT reply actions

Haha

Maybe, if he had been on the court enough to actually take it that many times..

but hey he’s got a few boards, so that’s nice – boards are hard to come by on the Hornets bench.

Lets do the hack-a-Hayes thing.

Ugliest free throw ever.

Yeah that is ugly.

just 3 baskets in that period and imagine how close a game it would be.

I don't know about anyone else but

facing Houston is another matchup I don’t want to see. Actually the only one I want to see is Spurs. Everybody else I’ll pass.

by RonD on Apr 13, 2009 8:36 PM CDT reply actions

TC won't be healthy from now til the start of the playoffs

The way he looked doing laterals before Sunday’s game didn’t give me any encouragement that he’ll be close to 100.

by RonD on Apr 13, 2009 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know but Chandler himself sounds very optimistic.....

He wants to play now which is a very good sign. Hopefully Byron’s just being careful not to bring him back too early. I would not like to see Houston either because it seems we never ever can win in Houston.

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Apr 13, 2009 8:51 PM CDT up reply actions

It's very weird.

We had 8 offensive rebounds and then all of a sudden we start giving up O-boards…these guys need to box out and put a body on someone.

How do they sleep at night knowing they suck.

Ha

Come on now… as M-W said… they’ve won 48 games. By definition, a team that wins 48 games does not “suck.”

by Caleb462 on Apr 13, 2009 8:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Nothing you can really get angry at, we're just not hitting good looks.

Obviously, every night doesn’t go like this, or they wouldn’t have won 48 games.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 8:56 PM CDT reply actions

Nice take on it.

But they just look confused. That’s what frustrates me.

This is ridiculous

I’m watching the play-by-play updates on Yahoo and all I see is a basketball icon (indicating points score) by each red play-by-play. Over half of the plays are blue and not one has a ball by it. This game even looks bad in words!

Don't even waste the energy man

I’m resigning to the fact that this team just sucks. They don’t have the right players.

From now on I’m just watching Cuz all this hoping and rooting takes too much energy when they play good one day and horrible the nex.

by RonD on Apr 13, 2009 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions

That's what gets to me.

The fact that one day they play really well then the next they just look like the worst team in the league. As evident in my sig, “New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.”

by JChangNZ on Apr 13, 2009 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Here's the thing.

Why Devin still? No Mo Pete, really? He began the year as a starter. How does he not even crack the rotation? You’ve stated multiple times how much you’re frustrated by Julian’s mistakes, and he’s still out there.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 9:18 PM CDT reply actions

Yeh me too.

I can shout at Byron and tell the bench to wake up. Tyson and I can be emotional support for the teams failures.

New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.

by Grayson on Apr 13, 2009 9:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Why not learn a bit from football?

You know how teams go no huddle, at the end of halves to try and score? Why not play D’Antoni/Nellie ball when down 20 in the 4th? Would it hurt to be able to just run down and chuck up threes quick in the shot clock (especially when you have plenty of shooters) for a quarter in a game when you’ve probably already lost?

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 9:24 PM CDT reply actions

Stunningly enough

I still really like Byron’s gameplan for this game. I thought he did a good job in preparation. Just horrid execution from the players after the 1st quarter.

by Rohan on Apr 13, 2009 9:24 PM CDT reply actions

Fair enough. And I agree.

Just kind of thinking outside the box for this situation.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 9:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I've way given up

I’m just going to spend the rest of this game laughing at Devin Brown

Oden first in offensive rebound rate

Przybilla first in overall rebound rate

It’s a good tandem.

by kitsunegari on Apr 13, 2009 9:33 PM CDT reply actions

Mo making me look stupid by looking as bad as Devin.

Then again, what does he have to play for? He’s played well off the bench since he came back, and still can’t buy minutes.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 9:34 PM CDT reply actions

I like how

Devin Brown’s idea of a box out is standing with both feet glued together and randomly sticking out his left hand without jumping.

by Rohan on Apr 13, 2009 9:34 PM CDT reply actions

See, I told you

It’s fun, isn’t it?

Dallas still losing!

On a day we get blown out by 25, we could still clinch the non-Laker spot! Perfect.

MONEY!

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Apr 13, 2009 9:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Doubt that it matters

We’re not going anywhere barring some huge injury.

by kitsunegari on Apr 13, 2009 9:40 PM CDT up reply actions

With Chandler

Nuggets, definitely. Rockets, great shot. Lakers, we have a shot too.

Chandler is HUGE on offense and defense.

by Rohan on Apr 13, 2009 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Thank you.

I was just gonna say the exact same thing.

Devin Brown is a basketball God!

by chandlerfan6 on Apr 13, 2009 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Especially Rockets/Nuggets.

Lakers tougher, but possible. Put it this way, I think the Lakers are looking at the 5-8 seeds and thinking they want us the least.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 9:52 PM CDT up reply actions

No we're fine.

We’ve proven we can challenge anyone in the West with Tyson except Utah and they will be eliminated first round. Plus we have players who step up big time in the Playoffs. D-West, TC, Posey and CP3 even manages to elevate his game.

GO T'WOLVES!!

New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.

by Grayson on Apr 13, 2009 9:47 PM CDT reply actions

So I guess now we root for San Antonio to win today

So their game against us on Wednesday won’t matter to them.

by Rohan on Apr 13, 2009 9:52 PM CDT up reply actions

P.S.

The Cavs were down 40 to the Magic the other week. No one said their season was over. No reason for us to panic.

by m-W on Apr 13, 2009 9:55 PM CDT reply actions

Ehhh

We’ve failed again and again in these “gut” games that meant something seeding-wise in the last two weeks. It’s not like the playoffs are going to magically cause things to happen.

http://hornetshype.com

by ticktock6 on Apr 13, 2009 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Difference is that only happened what once to the cavs in the whole season

How many times to the Hornets. Too many to count.

It’s sucks that they have all these injuries but the way they lose is hard to be positive this season

by RonD on Apr 13, 2009 10:03 PM CDT up reply actions

True.

But strangely it’s not just injuries. Byron’s inconsistent rotations is really hurting us. Julian and Mo should be playing regularly. Yet they don’t. That’s wasted talent. Yet Devin Brown still gets burn and so does Ely. Honestly, there’s no time left to “send messages” to players. You have who you have, and you need to live with the personnel choices the front office made. Hilton is your most talented big. Keep with him. Julian is your most talented wing after Posey. Keep with him. Mo is your best shooter off the bench. Keep with him.

Anything else is just ego. Let it go, Byron, and let these guys play. You scripted a good game plan (case in point tonight), so have confidence these guys can carry it out.
