I think that about sums up the game. For a 6 minute stretch, we went TWELVE consecutive possessions without scoring a single point. In that time, we also ceded 4 offensive rebounds and 18 consecutive points for Houston, including three layups and a dunk.
I don't really have anything else to say. This quote from Byron is great: “I think most of our guys in that locker room think that it’s like a light switch, that you can just turn on when the playoffs start. It’s not going to happen, it’s just not.”

Whoever thinks they can switch it on needs to be traded
You don’t back into the playoffs and figure it’ll just automatically click.
Nothing more to say other than Go Lakers tomorrow night.
I agree
But I think it’s a really tough mindset to get away from. I mean, as fans, we’re thinking the exact same thing too, right? Tough situation all around.
I used to think so
But then I’ve watched this team fail every test against a playoff team down the stretch. As in, these past two weeks in every single game they clearly, numerically could have moved up a spot/secured a seed. And I just don’t believe it. A team like Portland is on the kind of roll you want to be on heading into the playoffs. I know, I know, we lost some games in the last week of last season, lost first place, and then destroyed in the first round… but losing in the last weekend and losing for like 2-3 weeks straight aren’t the same thing.
You just can’t “turn it on” when there isn’t the talent or the size to turn it on with.

Byron Scott tried to lose this game.
This game was going well until Daniels killed the offense (again). Instead of making substitutions that didn’t suck, Scott stuck with the starters the entire third quarter, even though Mo Pete should have been put in—to, you know, use the millions of dollars he costs the team.
Scott tired the starters out and lost us the game. He is a genius.
To be fair
I think that he has no other option to put in the bench. I mean think about it based on what you said we should play the starters for 48 minutes, which would be very unwise. If the bench could hold their own I think Byron would be less hesitent to put the starters back in and give them more rest.
Also Byron bench the starters for the entire 4th so it’s not like hes an idiot. Here’s a quote from Byron;
“I’m looking for anything from our replacements. It’s tough because you try to go with something that will stay the same and will be a constant for you out there.”
I think Byron just wants to find players who are consistent of the bench, but unfortunatly no bench player is willing to step up.
New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.
Hornets could fall to eighth seed
Nice post on last night’s stinker. This blog already is linked on my home page.
For my take on why the Hornets have a real shot to fall to eighth and a hopeless matchup with the Lakers in the first round, check out this link on examiner.com.
Am I the only one just skeptical?
Could Byron have some sort of weird conspiracy to lose games? We look good for a quarter and then suck. Really? Maybe he’s trying to keep expectations low so Stern doesn’t interfere? Oh no, and now I’ve blown his cover!
Sigh.
