Game 87: Hive Five
Congratulations to the Denver Nuggets. They were clearly the vastly superior team, and they made sure the final series result reflected that. Best of luck to them in the second round.
As far as the Hornets... well, let's just say it's gonna be a long summer.

Bower and Scott
Need to go ASAP if this franchise is going to have any future, but with Shinn i’m not holding my breath. Since we have no assets other than maybe DW or AD’s expiring contract, it would take a FO with some actual skill to put anything decent together so we’re probably screwed. It looks like 2007-08 was THE chance to win for the forseeable future.

Scary summer for the Hornets
Bower’s attempt to trade Tyson Chandler frightens me. That’s the only reason I’d consider letting him go. I think the current situation is salvageable, but it’ll need some delicate leadership and he has shown no signs of being able to deliver that. I’d like to give him time to show what he is truly capable of, but in such a difficult moment, I’d be open to firing him.
I think it’s best to do everything possible to keep Byron Scott though. He has done an excellent job overall … and I’m not convinced any other coach would/could get as much out of this team as he has.

You think he's done a good job?
This is the least talented team in the NBA by a mile, bascially DLeague w/o CP on the floor. We have no one else who can create offense just a bunch of aging overpaid jumpshooters, some scrub big men, an injured C who can only throw down alley oops on offense, and two draft busts. We are paying like $45 million combined for Pedrag, AD, TC, Posey, and Mo Pete combined.

Bower?
I think he has done some good things and some bad things. In two short years he built a 56 win team that had an outside shot at a title — that’s impressive.
I thought he did an excellent job acquiring Tyson Chandler and signing West to that cheap extension. When combined with Chris Paul, that makes a very good core to a title contending team.
Bower overpaid Peja Stojakovic, but I don’t view that harshly because injuries have hurt Peja. If Peja was still able to give the team 17-19ppg, he’d be a very good complement to the core of the team. An overpaid component, but it’d work out fine. I also liked the Julian Wright pick.
I haven’t liked how Bower keeps acquiring midlevel contracts and I haven’t liked his lack of effort in filling the holes (the backup big man, a backup point) on the bench. Those midlevel contracts have been a disaster when coupled together, and have threatened the squad’s future.

Bower’s last 12 months have been atrocious though.

Best of luck in the offseason!
Not the best series for the Hornets, but they still have a nice nucleus to build around. Best of luck in the offseason!

Decent post by atthehive.
As Hornets fans, it’s really hard to take this result, but still wish Nuggets the best.

Don't think i actually posted during our series
but I for sure read every comment posted, and just wanted to thank you all for being a lot more friendly/insightful/honest/etc during the Nuggets Hornets series as opposed to the Dallas blogs/fans. Here’s to hoping Tyson heals and the hornets get a big name this offseason so we can have a great rematch next postseason!
