Chandler for Okafor?
One injury prone center for another. Doesn't seem like a step forward per se, but it could work to our favor... Stay tuned.

Okafor’s played all 82 games for the past two years. “Injury prone” is one of those labels I hate because it doesn’t mean anything.

Agreed
All players experience injury plagued seasons. And even if I did like using the “injury prone” term… I don’t think I’d use it on either of these two players.
I’m happy about the trade. I would have loved to see Tyson stick around and have a bounce back year… but getting Okafor is so much better than a couple of reserves or an expiring contract or some other salary dump. Okafor is a damn fine center… something few teams have, but something the Hornets can still claim to have after this trade. He’s not at the elite defensive level that Chandler is when healthy, but he’s more of shot blocker and isn’t a bad defender at all. And more offense is nice… I’m diggin it.

Okafor is a better post defender, hands down.
Maybe Chandler is better on the perimeter against long shooting PFs, but is that really what your starting center is supposed to do?

No offense but get your facts right hldomingue
Exactly ticktock6, how the hell is Okafor “injury prone” Atleast 67 games every year but his 2nd season and all 82 the last 2 years. Okafor is a better scorer, more blocks and just as good a rebounder.

Yikes.
Cool the jets everyone.
While “injury prone” may have been overstating it, Okafor has missed substantial portions of seasons past due to an ankle injury. In fact his 26 games played in 05-06 and his 67 in the following year were a direct result of this.
Now, obviously I want him to stay injury-free (and his past two seasons point to that being a distinct possibility, but we all know big men are more prone to injury (especially feet/ankle related). And this guy has seen some serious time on the pine in his (still very young) career because of injuries like that.
Clearly a better option than Chandler and I hope he can continue his healthy streak.
Thanks for keeping me honest.

Wow
I was expecting more talk on a Hornets blog tonight
As a Charlotte fan I’m really skeptical of this deal. Feels like a salary dump on our end. Though I’ve read criticism for the Hornet’s for taking on Meka’s hefty contract.
Pretty much a wash talent wise as long as Chandler is healthy, which I hope he is.

I like this...
to a degree. I mean, I don’t know a whole lot about Emeka. But his stats are clearly supperior to that of Chandlers. Also I am a bit confused as to what Okafor brings offensively. Some people say his a nice post player while others disagree. It would be nice to know if Emeka could provide another posting option.

Okafor isn't a great offensive player...
But he plays within himself. And, hell, you’re losing Tyson Chandler, who makes Okafor look like Wilt with the ball.

There's a huge difference...
between a player who has played 80 games in two of the last three seasons and one who has done it once in eight years. Okafor will play 70+, guaranteed. How comfortable would you have felt about Chandler? 40 games? 60, maybe?
