Who Will Win the Starting Shooting Guard Spot?
After the Rasual Butler trade, a hole needed to be filled, a hole in the name of 31.9 minutes per game. The Hornets have options and have made it a contest for the starting shooting guard spot in the rotation. Nothing makes players bring their “A” game more than good old competition, especially when the winner gets a prominent role on the team and the loser gets a supporting role. So who are these guys? Which ones really have a chance to start and who has the best chance of taking the spot next to Chris Paul?

I think it's gotta be MoPete
I mean… maybe Thornton ends up being the man on offense, but I dunno that we want to put CP out with a small dude on defense.
Definitely not Posey, I think Byron likes him as the 6th man. Good question to ponder though…
Mo Pete
Mo Pete feels like the obvious choice. He has the shooting ability to spread the floor and plays serviceable defense. I think he’ll be one of those 16-22 minute a night starters though, leaving a lot of time for two other wings to come off the bench and play large roles.
James Posey should continue coming off the bench. He’s a very good sixth man and brings great dependability + presence to that second unit. He’s needed there.
I don’t think Devin Brown is good enough to sniff the rotation next year … I hope!
Marcus Thornton and Julian Wright are the next two options. I don’t know much about the rookie, but I doubt he’ll be able to handle that type of workload right from the word go. As for Wright, defensively I’d love to see him in that starting unit, but offensively I think he’s a fairly poor fit next Chris Paul.
Good Chance - MoPete
However, if he continues to suffer from youBETiSUCKitis, I could envision Scott starting Wright and Peja on the wings. I know the plan was to maybe bring Peja off the bench, but if Mo Pete isn’t a go, Peja has to start. Posey w/o a doubt remains a 6th man. Brown – just don’t see it happening. Thornton would really have to blow people away in preseason to even just be considered.
I'm no commie, but the Reds shall be the best again!
Mo Pete
Posey is more of a 6th man, and with his age they probably want to limit his minutes. Right now I’d say Mo Pete has the edge, it’s his job to lose.
Question I don’t get to see the Hornets much but can Julian play the 2? I recall seeing him play the 3/4 but never the 2.
Thanks
Being from Detroit, I wish there was some way RIP could be moved to NO. Too bad RIP signed that fat extension and not even Utah will take him. RIP just seems like the perfect fit for this team. Too bad..at least there is always NBA 2k10…
