Lure talent via trade or free agency?

Just wanted to get some opinions from die hard Hornet fans.  From 2009 to 2011 the Hornets have very little financial freedom. After which Hornets will have some money to sign free agents and still have the CP3/Okafor combo.  However Hornets do have some expiring contracts this season (2009).  In addition Posey could possibly be moved to attain expirings if no one wants him:

Question is would you move Posey and the expiring contracts for a chance at a marquee star now or simply wait till 2011 and beyond and get someone via free agency.  I know it is unlikely that the Hornets move Posey and all it's expiring contracts but it's fun to GM!  Myself being a Piston fan I honestly wouldn't mind a Posey/Daniels for RIP trade.  Think it is a decent trade for both teams.

Here is the Hornets salary information (I assume it to be accurate):

I think we have a little room...

Once Peja and Mo Pete come off the books. Not that we will get a big free agent once they leave but we can still pick up a very decent player.

I think if we can keep a core group of guys such as CP, David West and Emeka then I think any move is a somewhat reasonable move. I don’t think getting rid of every single player except CP and Emeka is a good idea because it upsets a lot of balance. Having David as the low post scorer and midrange trigger certainly adds a different dimension to the team.

Trade ...

There’s what about $50 million on the books for 2011/12 — after draft picks + cap holds for empty roster spots

So unless the cap rises hugely over the next two off-seasons … I reckon the Hornets would be better off trying to trade their expiring contracts for talent rather than waiting and using their cap space in free agency.

Well Daniels is now gone so I’d imagine a big marquee trade is out the window. Though I am impressed how the Hornets have been able to decrease salary for the 2009/2010 season. Have to see what kind of maneuvering will need to be done in later seasons.
