The NBA All-Disgruntled Team, Would You Want Any of These Guys?

Last year, Golden State Warrior captain Stephen Jackson voiced his displeasure with his team and forced his way out of town with a trade that landed him with us. This year, an unusual number of players have voiced their displeasure with their current franchises and have basically told the world, "I want out". Whether it's about the team's lack of committment to winning, a lack of playing time, a "no" to a contract extension, or simply missing friends back home, players have let it be known that they want to move on. While none of these players are very realistic options to us at this point, are there any that you would make a deal for? And if so, who would you trade to get them?

After the jump, I present to you, the NBA's All Disgruntled Team.

Starting Lineup

Chris-paul11_medium

Chris Paul (PG New Orleans Hornets- 3 YRS, 14.9 million)

"He’s not said anything to me about any kind of movement. We’re going to sit down again before the season starts for sure. Again, I’m not going to jump to any conclusions that have been alleged.’’ -Monty Williams, Hornets Coach

Commentary- I've given up hope on Chris Paul. I believe if he leaves New Orleans, it will be to join the Knicks or Nets (wherever Melo is) rather than his home state Bobcats. Although I would still love to have him here, I've been kinda turned off to his big city dreams. Besides, New Orleans won't trade him this year (as they got rid of Darren Collison instead) and he still has 2 years on his contract.

Jamal Crawford (SG Atlanta Hawks- 1 YR 10.0 million)

"If it doesn't work out we'll cross that bridge when we get there."- Crawford, speaking on extension

Commentary- I doubt Crawford ends up being traded, but if he does, he is a good value. A player that can still produce at a high rate and is on an expiring deal is always valuable to teams on the edge of championship or rebuilding (Spurs, Celtics). I think he would add a much needed boost to our team's offense, but we really don't have the pieces to acquire him.

Carmelo-anthony-twitter_medium

Carmelo Anthony (SF Denver Nuggets 2 YRS 17.2 million)

"Whatever the future holds, it holds. I'm leaving my options open right now."- Anthony, speaking on trade rumors

Commentary- The only thing Anthony can do at this point right now to make me want him is come out and say "I want to be a Charlotte Bobcat." Since that will never happen, I really don't want to see Anthony here. If we can somehow convince Denver to part with him for peanuts, then sure, I'd do it. He wouldn't sign the extension anyway so we would get a half season from him. However, he may have to end up being had for peanuts because the Nuggets have backed themselves into a corner. Without signing an extension, NO TEAM (not even the Knicks) is going to give up value for him. It's best to wait til next off-season to take your chances signing him as a free ageent. Denver isn't going to get a better offer than what New Jersey was willing to give, unless Golden State wants to use this as an opportunity to rid themelves of Monta Ellis

Kenyon Martin (PF Denver Nuggets 1 YR 16.6 million)

"I'm not rushing whatsoever. The day I come back is the day I come back. Think about it: Ain't nobody in a hurry to give me a contract, so why would I be in a hurry to rush back and risk further injury? Makes all the sense in the world, right? Trust me, I've thought about it plenty."- Martin, speaking on not being offered extension

Commentary- Usually, I side with a player when they complain about not being extended and have done all they can for the organization. However, I just can't side with Martin on this one. He really sounds like a big baby. Getting paid over 16 million this year and you aren't in a rush to help your team because they are not offering an extension? Who would? Although we could definitely use Martin's defense, his ranting has exposed himself to only be worried about the money. However, he will still have a lot of value to some team this year because of what he can do when he is healthy, and his contract is coming off the books at the end of the year.

Act_marcin_gortat_medium

Marcin Gortat (C Orlando Magic 4 YRS 6.3 million)

"I love the organization, but I’m not going to stay here being a back-up player and playing five minutes a game. I hope people understand that. I know I can have a bigger role on another team." -Gortat, speaking on playing behind Dwight Howard

Commentary- I'm not as convinced that Gortat would be a very good starting center as Orlando was when they matched the Mavericks' offer sheet, but he would definitely be the best center on our roster. If Orlando doesn't look like a contender at the deadline, I could see us trading Nazr for him if they choose to go in the rebuilding direction. However, none of that seems likely. The only way I could see him being moved is if he really becomes a distraction. But do we even want to take the risk of having another overpaid center on the team? (See Desagana Diop).

Reserves

Gilbert Arenas (PG Washington Wizards 4 YRS 17.7 million)

"Right now I'm out there to hit open shots, teach John the ins and the outs of the game, and then eventually go on and move on -- on my way. This is the NBA. There's few players that stay in the same city, so right now the city is John's. I'm not here to fight anybody. I'm here to play alongside of him." -Arenas, speaking on John Wall

Commentary- Earlier this year, when we had Damp's contract to work with, I was hoping we would make a play for Gilbert. However, as days go by, it looks like it's best to let him and his contract rot in Washington. Right now, we are looking for players that can take us to championship caliber. Although Gilbert would undoubtebly be an upgrade, his salary can become even more toxic than it already is if he suffers another injury. Gilbert can still, however, be a top 5 PG in the league. It's a very risky proposition.

Rudy Fernandez (SG Portland Trailblazers 3 YRS 1.25 million)

"I don't want a trade, I prefer to go home with my family and play in Europe. I don't want to hear about New York or about Chicago. I want to hear I'm going back to Europe." - Fernandez on trade rumors

Commentary- Like the Nuggets with Anthony, the Blazers are killing Fernandez' trade value by holding on to him against his will. However, it's worse with Rudy, because he actually wants to leave the NBA entirely. Teams have been willing to throw a couple of second rounders at Portland in exchange for him, but his preseason debut may give them more of a reason to just hold on to him until his contract runs out and try to convince him that the NBA is where he should be. However, given Rudy's whining about wanting to go home, see friends, and play in the European league, I'm pretty sure his trade value is none right now. I'll take him, if Portland takes back Diop. (Although it would never happen, keep in mind all of the injuries Portland big men suffer. If Oden, Pryzbilla, and Camby all get hurt, they may just get desperate enough to take Diop).

Eddy Curry (C New York Knicks 1 YR 11.3 million)

"Why would I do that? Anybody who thinks that is wrong. That did not happen. He didn’t ask me about the Knicks, New York or any other team. We hung out together. We worked out and that was it." -Curry, speaking on rumors he bad mouthed about the Knicks to LeBron.

Commentary- I'm not a Knicks fan, but it even hurt me a little that this fat P.O.S. is the reason that New  York never had a chance to sign 3 max players and be the Miami Heat of this year. Curry is just wasted talent. And I hate to bad mouth players, because I identify with them more than the teams, but it seems like all he wants to do is sit back and collect a check. He's always hurt or out of shape and feuding with coaches. If Eddy Curry is on my team, I want it to be for the minimum. However, he is a pretty nice trade chip as his massive salary is finally coming off the books.

T.J. Ford (PG Indiana Pacers 1 YR 8.5 million)

"I just have to stay professional, I have to come in and do what I need to do keep myself ready. At the end of the day it's a business, you have to just respect their decision and go from there. This is the first time that I've had to deal with a situation to this extent." -Ford, speaking on being benched

Commentary- Barring a dramatic change of events, this will be T.J. Ford's last year in Indiana. Jim O'brien has kept him buried on the bench for so long, that he may not have ANY value in the NBA. I anticipate the Pacers will save all of their cap room and release him eventually and we will be one of his top destinations, but some team may jump the gun and trade to get his contract before the release comes. Either way, keep your eye on him. I still think he is in the Bobcat's future plans.

Glen Davis (PF Boston Celtics 1 YR 3.3 million)

It’s difficult because as a player you kind of don’t understand where they’re going or what they’re doing, No matter what I do, I can play great, it’s still not enough.’- Big Baby, speaking on being Jermaine O'neal and Shaq signing

Commentary- Although Doc Rivers and Davis have put this feud in the past, I wonder how long that can last. Winning is always the cure all in sports, and it's been no different in Boston. All of the flames seem to be put out by a 7 game winning streak. However, if Boston fails to deliver another championship, Davis could grow tired of feeling like he's being replaced and go somewhere where he'll get consistent playing time. There was once a D.J. for Big Baby trade rumor, would you like to revisit it?
