ESPN: Stojakovic, Bayless To Toronto
GreekKing broke the news on At the Hive here last night.
I'll update this post as we learn more. The trade in principle is: Peja Stojakovic for Toronto's Chris Bosh trade exception and Jerryd Bayless for Marcus Banks and David Andersen.
Saturday, 11:44 PM
Here's what ESPN says right now:
The New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a five-player trade that would send Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless to the Raptors for Jarrett Jack,David Andersen and Marcus Banks, a source told ESPN.com Saturday.
The deal was close to being completed Friday night, but had been held up over the amount of cash the Hornets would send to the Raptors in the trade, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The original report can be found here.

So this trade is expirings + Bayless for Jack and expirings?
Don’t like it, and I’m a Mavs fan.

oh, so they'll get a TE out of it?
I figured it would be Peja for the three, then Bayless for the TE.
From what I know, they would, yeah
I believe it’s this:

and this:

Still no official confirmation either way.
NOH has a lot of exceptions anyways
don’t need more, but the Raptors do.

I believe this is because a TE can only be used in a one-for-one case.
The trade machine might be wrong in approving the second deal.
Marc Spears reporting that it's Bayless for Andersen
Like above.
Resume celebrations!! (until next report)
it's a great deal if they can get the TE out of it.
I dislike it if it’s trading the expiring and Jerryd for Jarrett and a TE worth 2 million.
Jarrett is better, but three more years after this one…
Doing some quick research
I think you’re right about TE can’t be added on. So it looks like Spears’ report is wrong?
Is that true?
That might be true. Every time I feel like I understand these rules, I realize I’m just even more confused.
Wikipedia says
Note this exception is for single player trades only, though additional cash and draft picks can be part of the trade.
I’m working on better information.
.
The $2.5 million exception can only be used to acquire a player making $2.5 million or less, and the $1.9 million exception can only be used to acquire a player making $1.9 million or less (again, each also has a $100,000 fudge factor).
Exceptions cannot be combined with exceptions or players

I thought Peja
would be traded for CP3’s running mate. What could we get for Thornton, nothing of too much value. I don’t like it. One bit.

I think people were expecting too much as far as what was available for Peja's expiring
Hornets247 has done a few posts on this – Peja’s expiring is not worth a whole lot in this particular season and this particular climate.
I love it!
I’ve always enjoyed watching Jarret Jack play. He’ll be a solid backup PG and definite upgrade to Bayless.
Jack is one of the league's best backup points
I am surprised to see the team give up on Bayless so quickly, but I can understand the logic. They will get more from Jack then they are getting from Bayless right now, particularly in the form of assists and playmaking… but “now” is the operative word.
eh
on paper its not that great imo but I learned never to second guess Dell Demps. For all we know Nuggets/76ers has some weird obsession with Jarrett Jack or David Anderson or something and we end up with Melo/Iggy next week.
I'm feeling the same way as far as Demps is concerned
None of his moves have seemed like excellent moves at the time, but they have all looked excellent in hindsight. Demps has earned my trust.
Simmons is on the bandwagon:
# @STEIN_LINE_HQ Don’t agree that Peja’s expiring was an asset. Best-case trade scenario… J-Rich? Diaw? I’d rather have Jack + saved $$$$. less than 5 seconds ago via web
# I think Bayless just realized his NBA destiny: good stats on an awful team. RT @buruzoth what’s your reaction for the Raptors? 4 minutes ago via web
# That Hornets trade was brilliant. Saved them serious cash ($11m including tax) + Jack will really help them as a 3rd guard. Kudos to Demps.
don't know much
about anderson…except he is old.
I like it
Peja was bound to go. Kinda surprised that Bayless was written off so quickly, but Jack will easily fill his void. Huge cap relief if I’ve ever seen it, but in return we get solid bench players for a decent price while losing Peja’s huge salary.
The only thing I don’t understand is what can we do with Bosh’s trade exception? If anything? I know very little about exceptions.
So..
Was the peja heads included in the deal? will we see belinelli heads now?
Also, what a culture shock it is gonna be for Jack and friends coming from Toronto to New Orleans.
Bulls fan here, how do you guys feel about Thornton after this deal
seems to me there are not nearly enough minutes to go around since I’m assuming Jack will play some 2 and Green and Thornton are both too small to play the 3.
You can have William.

why didn't they trade Gray?
Nobody wanted him or they have other plans?
Very confused as to his role on the team…
Jack, Green, Mbenga, Smith, Pondexter, this team is good. And deep. And getting better.
And with the financial moves here, more prepared $$$-wise too.
