Thread for trades

Hello Guys,

Just like last year, I am here to breakdown each hornets player, so that it can help other hornets fans come up with reasonable trades for the hornets(offseason is the time of speculation, followed closely by the trade deadline HAHA)

To start, I think most people would consider Paul untouchable. Chouest has stated that Paul is going nowhere. So i'm not going to really analyze him, because he is a top 5 player in the NBA right now(even after the injuries).

Consider also that expirings will be viewed differently this year, because so many teams will have cap room, and with the looming possibility of a lockout, it may carry less value as compared to an expiring last year(right before the free agent bonanza).

That said, lets begin...

Peja Stojakovic - 15 336 000

> huge expiring, was hurt last season, mostly seen as deadweight around the league. Can shoot the ball, is a better defender the most people give him credit for, but is known to be soft around the league, which hugely affects his rep.

grade:C+ but eventually rises and peaks to a B+ right around the trade deadline

Emeka Okafor - 12 540 375

> a bulky person in the middle, has no go to move in the offense but still reliable in the offensive side. not a great post defender, but a great help defender from the weakside. great rebounder. Sets good picks, doesn't have good hands, and largely seen as an OP center. (my opinion: he may be overpaid, but center's who are reliable both on offense and defense are rare in the league)

grade: C+

David West - 8 287 500

> soft hands, great scorer, both from the low and high post. great pick and pop player. great FT% for a big man has developed into a pretty good passer. has a front loaded contract. an average rebounder(sucky if compared to his position), regularly a bad defensive player but when motivated transforms into a pretty solid one.

grade: B

Morris Peterson - 6 641 440

>great team guy, great professional, more than adequate 3 point shooter( excellent from the corner). average defender, uses size to cancel out slow footedness.  has not had a great statistical time in NOLA. Huge expiring but mostly seen as deadweight around the league.

grade: C

James Posey - 6 478 600

> was out of shape to start the season, and never really got back to the build he wanted or needed to excel. Will need to work hard during the offseason to develop into anything useful for the hornets, or for any trade partner. Bad percentages, but improved as a rebounder.

grade:D

Darius Songaila - 4 818 000

> a good mid range shooter, good FT shooter, good pick and roll defender. Not much of anything else. bad post, bad help defender. not a great rebounder or shot blocker. but is an expiring..

grade: C

Julian Wright - 2 858 056

> a good rebounder, has no reliable offensive move except for that spin move(which is still horrible). an OK on ball defender, a bad team defender. expiring contract.Mostly seen as a bust

grade: C

Darren Collison

> good on ball defender, good 3 pt and FT shooter, high assist rate, good scorer. has proven to be a capable starter. seen as a potential top 10 PG. his value is increased by the fact that the draft is not laden with PG talent...

grade: A

Marcus Thornton

> GREAT scorer. has a multitude of offensive moves at his disposal: runner, floater, fade away, 3 pt shot. Can finish at the rim, can find cracks in the defense, by moving efficiently and using picks effectively. Has gobs of potential untapped.

grade: B+

11th pick

> not much value because this draft is seen as a top 4 draft and everybody else. but contains a lot of big men..

grade: B

C is passable, D is not so good.

To finalize we have 9 trade assets(Peja, Okafor, West, Songaila, Wright, Peterson, Collison, Thornton, 11th pick) however keep in mind that expiring mean less this year than in previous years.

post trade possibilities via comments.

Okay, post away! I will post mine if i have any ideas..pls post reasons for both teams accepting the deal

Thanks for the thread

I’m not huge on mock trades, but I know a lot of people are, so it would be nice to have a central place to talk about it.

By the way, if y’all want this thread to stay on the top of the right side bar (instead of moving down every time there’s a new fanpost), feel free to hit the “Rec” button at the bottom of the post.

nowadays

im not into that much about mock trades. i’m more into draft night(unlike last year when we we’re picking 21)… So i’m concentrating on studying every prospects S&W. reading blogs, and stuff. but at least with this fanpost, we get to have a central place to talk about trades. :)

JUJU a C ??

can’t imagine that

as for trades , i got to keep harping on the

DC/Okafor/11th pick to detroit for Prince/Jerberko (or daye) / 7th pick

i’m very proud of it

by chief youngblood on Jun 6, 2010 3:36 PM CDT reply actions

Will we be picking a pg with the 7th pick?

We drafted DC so CP wouldn’t have to play 40 minutes a night and now we seem to be very anxious to get rid of him. Our bench depth starts with the floor generals.

i'm not advocating that we trade DC

im just putting his value into a grade. i for one am torn between having DC and trading him. if we are going to trade him, it should be for a 2nd banana to Cp3 and West. nothing less.. it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we did not trade DC.

I know you aren't nikkoewan...

my reply was to chief youngblood. I see DC/Okafor for some other random player trade ideas kind of often.

I forgot to say I like your grades. I probably would’ve lowered Collison’s grade just a bit because of his turnovers and his nice numbers not leading to many wins. I probably would’ve given him an A- or a B.

by QueenBee on Jun 6, 2010 11:46 PM CDT reply actions

i agree

i forgot to mention his high turnover rate. that may lower his grade to a B+..

Kings Trade

Would you guys trade Collison and the #11 pick for the #5 pick?

by Petrie916 on Jun 7, 2010 4:15 PM CDT reply actions

7th pick

we’d use the 7th for a more legit big man ie. Greg Monroe , or Cole Aldrich

by chief youngblood on Jun 7, 2010 7:36 PM CDT reply actions

personally

i think the hornets, stand pat until around the deadline. i think this group can compete for a 5th to 8th seed until around january. then teams start calling about our expirings. maybe they want to dump salary. somebody like garcia, who personally i think is not overpaid, or maybe Philly(if ever it turns out that Turner and Iggy can’t work). but …..
im starting to believe that this team will be very much the same as last year, only with an 11th pick. and then management starts cutting salary, to save luxury tax. then we start next year again, resign DWest for another cheap but longer contract, a 20 pt scorer in Paul, Thornton and Dwest, a great rebounder in Emeka, a better 11th pick, a super 6th man in Collison and cap space to sign Melo, or make other teams overpay for either Horford, Noah, Gasol or Durant…

I really love Darrens game but I wouldnt any package that did give us Jerryd Bayless and Rudy Fernandez. With these two the Hornets backcourt would be set for the next couple of season, since both are quite young and I heard that both arent too happy in Portland. Maybe something like JuJu (young and expiring) and DC for Bayless, Fernandez and maybe the 22nd pick.

dont think so

cp3 untouchable only way he’s gone is if Monty Williams cant improve the team by 2012 the cp3’s traded for value and Thornton is the 2 guard we needed. i say trade Collison for a backup PG and a top 7 pick to get the boy from Helen Cox Greg Monroe, he’s got good handles for a big man also great passer but could improve midrange.

deedy baby

by Deedy on Jun 10, 2010 8:00 PM CDT reply actions

i think monroe is great BUT

i don’t think trading darren is unless we get a sure fire thing. the problem with trading a proven player like Collison for a draft pick is that draft picks are somewhat of an inexact science. do you think had West been drafted elsewhere, that he could have become the 20 pt scorer he is today? or had Wright been drafted by some other team, that he could have been better? Collison is good for our team, he is not a distraction(not this point at least) so why not hold on to him? i would much rather have darren + 11th than some backup PG +7 +11..

by nikkoewan on Jun 10, 2010 11:01 PM CDT up reply actions

also, we need P&R defenders

bigs who are quick enough to show and hedge the ball handler until the defender can recover but still quick enough to get back to his man.. someone like Aldrich, who although looks lumbering, is really quick for his size.

by nikkoewan on Jun 10, 2010 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Like

Wesley Johnson. He seems like an NBA-ready prospect too me.

Sign and Trade!

Collison, West/Okafor, 11th pick, (Mo Pete?) to Raps for Chris Bosh. Then we sign Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake, and acquire Kelenna Azubuike or Anthony Morrow from Golden State in a trade involving Darius Songaila. Then we draft a big man, be it Cole Aldrich, Patrick Patterson, Hassan Whiteside, or another one.

Then we have a pretty nice line up:
PG- CP3, Steve Blake
SG- Azubuike/Morrow, Thornton
SF- Outlaw, Peja, Wright
PF- Bosh (West), Diogu, Posey (draft pick)
C- Okafor (Bosh), Gray, (draft pick)

This gives us a facilitator as a backup PG with Steve Blake, and he’s a face Monty Williams is familiar with. He can distribute the ball to 2nd unit wing players as well as big men down low. Adding Azubuike would be an excellent addition in all areas considering his scrappy defense and ability to stretch the defense with his scoring, Morrow would stretch the defense with his lock down 3 point shooting, but will lack in the defensive area. Outlaw is still developing and he is one of Williams’s first projects from Portland. He has a really good all around game, and didn’t fit in with the Clippers. I think he could flourish here, where he’d get a chance to start. Of course, getting Bosh would make us much more dangerous in the paint as he can create his own offense and his length gives us some help defensively even though he isn’t a great defender.

How does everyone else feel about this? The moves would cut costs at several positions, while adding payroll to others, thus keeping us about the same level. It looks good on paper, and I believe it gives us help when defending the perimeter while trying to beef up the painted area.

This draft screams Dynasty. If that's the case, then I say, let the Saints Reign begin!

by LocoSaint on Jun 11, 2010 2:48 PM CDT reply actions

how do we get another pick?

i don’t like the idea one bit, i think we’re giving too much for CB4.. i mean collison and west sure, but the 11th pick? not sure about that. morrow would be great beside cp3, as do azubuike. outlaw is a name most hornets fans have thrown with monty williams coming over. i wouldn’t be surprised if he was signed below the MLE, shocked if he gets the full MLE.

by nikkoewan on Jun 11, 2010 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions

oh yeah

i forgot about that other pick, my bad. Chris Bosh is an elite player btw, giving up Collison, West, and the 11th is not out of question.

I'd love to see

Wes Johnson in a Hornets uniform but we’d need the #4 pick to grab him for sure. That pick is held by the T-Wolves and they don’t need a PG. Maybe we could trad them Peja (expiring) and the 11th pick and pick up a big later in the draft. Any other ideas.

Energy and Athlete'sTrade

Get Josh Childress to sign and receive Atlanta’s 24th pick for Mo Pete/11th pick, sign Travis Outlaw/Portland, Anthony Tolliver/Golden State and Tony Allen/Boston. Draft Solomon Alabi from Florida St, Kevin Seraphin from Cholet or Hassan Whiteside at the 24th pick. Resign Gray, and Diogu if he is healthy. Cut Marks and Songalia.
