Bah!!!
Amazing how you can own a team where good/bad moves have a domino effect on all sorts of things including revenue, be surrounded by all sorts of media and analysis and you STILL sit on your hands!

It's Not The End Of The World
I know a lot of people wanted him but let’s be honest. We’re just looking for an adequate backup shooting guard. I don’t think there’s any question that Marcus Thornton can handle the starter’s position. I know Brewer’s a sexier name, but Marquis Daniels can fit what we’re looking for just nicely.

Disagree
This type of thinking doesn’t lead to championships. With how competitive the NBA is, you’ve got to always put your best foot forward. Now I’m definitely not saying by us missing out on Brewer and instead going for a guy like Daniels will make/break us. However, it serves as another example that we might as well hope for 2nd or 3rd place.
Besides, I feel many of us are taking the Brewer signing as just a part of the whole Hornet fiasco since the start of free agency. We’ve missed out on (for whatever reason) on a number of solid and potentially very helpful players. If this pattern continues into the season, it can prove to be a real danger to this franchise (ie. CP3 just leaving ala Lebron).

I'm So Tired Of Hearing About Convincing CP3
Everybody needs to shut up about CP3 leaving. I’m tired of it. We’re having to deal with all the LeBron-ery about how great a player is, how he’s bigger than the franchise and how the team needs to convince him they’re still winning but we’ve reaped NONE of the benefits that LeBron gave Cleveland; not even the fiscal benefits such as attendance and apparel sales.
Now on to the topic, Ronnie Brewer would have been a back up here. I’m saying in a back up position, he would have been terrific. I wanted Brewer on the team. But the Hornets aren’t going to wither away and become a lottery team just because Brewer didn’t play for them. That’s the point I was trying to make. Marquis Daniels can still be just as effective as a back up as Brewer was. Definitely not as impactful of a player, but Daniels (before his bad year in Boston last season) was seen as a productive, efficient shooting guard. If the Hornets had signed him last year it would have been a “great sign.” But this year it’s a “bad move.”

By The Way
I agree that the team will not reach a championship level if they continue to be passive in talent acquisitions. But they’re not winning a championship next year regardless. It was aggressive, impulsive acquisitions that put the team in the bind it’s in now. Ronnie Brewer was not going to be the guy that put the team over the top this season.

“Definitely not as impactful of a player, but Daniels (before his bad year in Boston last season) was seen as a productive, efficient shooting guard.”
Some people may have seen him as such, but it was not and has never been true. He’s been a below average player his whole career, and the word “efficient” is not a word anyone should ever use with Daniels. The guy had a sub 100 offensive rating (read – BAD) his three years prior to his poor year in Boston.
I don’t think too many people would have considering signing Daniels a great sign last offseason… I know I wouldn’t have.
CP3 is an amazing player...
But after seeing Cav’s make trade after trade and waste resources trying to “get LeBron some help”, only to see him leave anyways, I would DEF be against using that same sort of treatment for Chris Paul.
Nobody wants this
nor suggested this. I’m pretty sure every comment I’ve seen in general just wants to see the front office try to make a more concerted effort to put a better product on the floor for now and the future.
Forget about CP3 on our team for a second, would you be happy with this offseason? I hope it’s a resounding no. There were numerous pieces in free agency this season that fit a number of our holes. However, I don’t ever remember hearing the Hornets even throwing their name into the ring for these optimum fits. That seriously bothers me (especially if I was still a season ticket holder).

the only reason for the hornets fan base is paul
Personally i don’t think that we have much to help i think a lot of our moves have been just to get under the salary cap. The cavs at least made moves to try to get the help. Our help has been to save money we need to start spending smartly maybe trade some people away to upgrade, maybe add a josh howard type. We could try to trade for a star, but we need to do something. We have basically a team built to be a number six seed at best maybe worse. The only players id want to keep on this team is west paul collison and thorton. I hope they find a way to package stojakovic’s contract and make a move this season
That's Pretty Sad
With some of the worst attendance numbers in the league for their entire stay in New Orleans, I’d say that having Chris Paul doesn’t really matter in terms of the “attendance” and the “fan base.”
Furthermore, had Paul stayed healthy last season, the Hornets would have contended for the Division Championship. They won 37 games last season with him missing 37 games. Let’s say the team goes 17-20 in those 37 games he missed (and that’s really generous), that’s a 54 win team that contends for the Division Championship; no less than a 3 seed. I wouldn’t expect any team in the division (maybe Houston) to take gigantic leaps forward next season. There’s no reason the Hornets can’t contend for the division title if Paul stays healthy.

When I say fan base i mean...
People who watch the hornets and buy hornets gear which is one of the financial ways for a team to make money and chris paul is the only hornet selling jersey. Just look at the list

You really believe that?
Chris Paul really doesn’t matter in terms of “fan base?” Come on, small market teams in non-traditional basketball locations rely on either winning, fantastic history, or stars. Every Hornet fan I know thinks the world of CP3. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of us would really decrease our attention to the team if he left in a negative light.

As Opposed
To the negative light Chris Paul himself is shining on the franchise?

But how negative has he really been?
The worst reports talk about him being unhappy or questioning the Hornets direction. It’s not pouting, calling out mangement, other players etc. I’d expect any good player to grumble and question a front office if the commitment to winning isn’t apparent. Plenty of top players have done it in the past including Kobe, Lebron, etc.

I Guess So
I love Chris Paul. I’m a huge Chris Paul fan. However, I am a Hornets fan first. Just a quick comment after all these rumors saying “I want to stay in New Orleans,” would have shut up all the rumors, would have stopped all the negative press that the team is receiving and would have made him a MUCH more sympathetic figure. But he doesn’t care. David West wasn’t bitching about acquiring more talent last year. Paul’s hanging out with all the rich kids, seeing what they have, and getting pissed at his parents because he doesn’t have it. It’s amatuerish. Everybody wants to win. Everybody does. The fact that Paul doesn’ thave the courtesy to tell the team “I want to be here. Let’s do this,” or anything remotely close tells me that he doesn’t care how bad he makes the franchise look.
And that’s SELFISH regardless of which way you try to spin it.

Don't be so quick to accolade West
I remember reading last season just how unhappy he was with Byron Scott at the helm. As soon as he got fired, West’s play and passion definitely seemed to pick up.
Back to the topic, I’m not so sure we can slam Paul. I’ve got a feeling that with Scott and now Bower gone, he might not have a link to anyone left. Shinn nor Weber seem like a guy any player can have a good relationship where they can voice their concerns about the team.
Also, you seem hellbent about how this is making the franchise look so bad. Why should he or anyone dress it up? Look at all of us this offseason, we’re not happy one bit with a number of the decisions. It could actually be worse if CP3 puts up a false front – management would likely move slower to accomplish the necessary tasks.

You're Missing The Point
It’s not the highest paid and most important player on the team’s job to make the franchise look bad. The Hornets can look bad on their own accord. Again, Chris Paul will be a more sympathetic figure if he just says he wants to play for New Orleans and then they continue to fail him.
By the way, EVERYONE on the team seemed to play harder and with more passion once Byron Scott left. The only person to openly cry about it: Chris Paul. I think that means something.
Either way, we’ll agree to disagree. I side with the team, you side with the player. That’s basically what it boils down to. Let me ask you this, how is Paul going to expect the Hornets to attract bigger free agents when he does nothing to openly support the franchise? “Hey I’m Ronnie Brewer, let me go play for the Hornets. Oh wait, Chris Paul’s on ESPN again talking about how he may be traded becauset hey’re not committed to winning. Let me go sign with them.”

Eh I get your point but so what?
Like I said, I still don’t get how you keep spinning this as a terrible thing for the franchise. What has CP3 done that is so heinous to our image? Some owners (like ours) need a swift kick in the butt and I’m glad the general perception of the team is one of displeasure. We had a young (for the most part) rising team on the verge several years ago and it seems like a very distant memory.

Let Me Ask You
What Chris Paul is accomplishing by his bitching? It’s a catch 22. How is the team going to improve and attract free agents when Chris Paul’s given no indication that he’s going to stay with the team past 2012 or that he even wants to be on the team next season? At the same time, he’s saying that the team has to show a commitment to winning. Well Paul has to be committed to the big picture as well.
He’s more concerned with himself than the Hornets at the moment and its a damn shame that you and the rest of the fanbase have empowered a player against the entire team.
And by the way, the Hornets have always ranked in the bottom half of league attendance in New Orleans before and after Chris Paul. So I don’t want to hear about what kind of impact he has on the fanbase. It’s obviously very marginal; if any at all. It just seems like the fans have an excuse for poor attendance now (it was awful in 2008 as well).

Ok
This has definitely gone long enough so I’ll agree to disagree. Our owner and his staff aren’t most transparent organization. It’s small and tight-lipped. What you call bitching – I call raising awareness. As I’ve said, why should everything be peaches and cream out of his mouth? It’s obvious the state of the Hornets isn’t so why should a passionate guy cover it up?
This whole thing about not being able to attract free agents because of what little he’s said is pure nonsense. Players have said much worse and their teams have had no problems. All he wants is a commitment to winning. Free agents are not going to be scared off by this.
As far as fan base – you’re too literal by just looking at attendance numbers. Many Hornets fans don’t attend games – whether for economic reasons or whatever. It takes years and years of developing a loyal fanbase to come out every night – especially for a small market team. Also, you think sponsors wouldn’t have a problem paying current prices for a CP3-less team? Get out of here.

They Probably Would
But they haven’t done with a CP3-occupied team either.
And it’s not BS at all. What were the Lakers able to do in free agency when Kobe was whining all the time? What were the Cavs able to do with the uncertainty surrounding LBJ? They made great TRADES and that’s what helped the Lakers win and the Cavs stay competitive, but don’t spin it as the franchise continued on with no issues while the star player was whining.
And you want to talk to me about not having a championship mentality as a fan, but you’ve given all this power and support to a player that’s done absolutely nothing of historical value to this franchise (unless you count winning the division championship, which means you’re the one with lowered expectations) and we give him a pass but bash the rest of the team. I don’t like it.
Look, we shouldn’t be arguing about this. We both agree that the front office sucks. We both agree they’re incompetent. We both agree that the franchise looks like a circus right now. Do we both agree that Paul staying healthy would have improved the team last season? Do we both agree that Paul coming out and saying that he’s going to stay with the team (instead of saying “I’m open to leaving”) is going to make the team a more attractive destination? Does Paul really deserve to disassociate himself from the franchise as much as he has this past year?
I don’t think Paul deserves the benefit of the doubt and that’s all the fans here give him.

also
If you think that we have a championship contender right now then our team should be able to play at 500 even without paul. Look at the championship contenders from last year, houston didn’t have there two stars and still had a better record than us, the lakers played without kobe and still played well, the only team that didt play at least 500 was the cavs since they depended on lebron as much as we depend on cp3
I do have one question
Are we a run and gun team or a half court team? I believe we are more run and gun and i think we should get players who follow that type of skill set. More athletic types that can play defense and shoot at least the three thats why i threw josh howards name out there he was once an allstar and still could be
Well this sucks
