Counting Our Money
It's been more than a month since I last broke out the handy salary chart, so off we go.

Salary Cap

Luxury Tax

There we are. As we zoom forth into a brave new post-Collison world, the Hornets are now $3,462,062 under the tax. That should be enough to add three minimum-salaried players, one would think (though if one were like me, one would have discovered only last week that the minimum salary varies based on the player, and thus one would be rather unsure of any subsequent things one would think).
But anyways, that's that. The recent trades slice some money off the payroll, but there simply aren't many free agent options left. Who wants fourteen million expiring dollars?

Salary Cap impacts
Hey Rohan – just wanted to give you even more information about the minimum salary.
Although the amount varies based on years in the league, for players on a minimum salary, the amount applied to the cap is never more than a second-year players minimum, or $762,195. This was put into the current CBA so that teams wouldn’t avoid signing veteran players due to cap concerns.
As an additional bit of information – any difference between the player’s minimum salary and that 2nd year minimum is paid by the league too. For the same reason.
Archaic stuff, eh?

I'm seeing rumors....
…. of talks between us and Golden State possibly for Biedrins. I know Biedrins has come out and said he is unhappy and wants to play with a pass first point guard. Just to float another rumor out there. BTW Oakafor straight up for Biedrins saves us some coin too(as that is the rumor I keep seeing)

Hoopshype.com
has Peja making more than CP3 at $15,336,000 this season.
Hoopshype is wrong.
the best source is ShamSports.com.

You sir are right...
I’ve been told this before and forgot all about Sham.
Source please?
3ptace, what is your source on the Biedrins rumor? It does make some sense. What you say about him wanting to play in a different (less guard oriented) system is true. Also, he and Marco Belinelli were best friends and really played well together on the court when Marco was with the Warriors. So, what is the source of the rumor so we can judge how serious it is. Thanks.

Okay, totally random and highly unlikely, but here goes

lol I refuse to let the Melo rumors die.
3 team deal, and it’s quite apparent that Denver doesn’t get much out of the deal. But they get an adequate scorer in Monta Ellis, and there really isn’t a WHOLE lot of damage done. I would assume that the Hornets throw in a first rounder, too.
GSW comes out looking much better in salary room, seeing as they only have one big long term contract instead of two.
The Hornets of course steal the show, and probably have a better team than the one in South Beach now.
A super pipe dream. And I feel silly even posting it, but hey, I’m bored, and I know you all have been wanting something to talk about.
Don't Like The Rumor At All
Biedrins doesn’t play any defense, is hurt all of the time and really is only a super productive player if he’s in an up tempo style. He’s not really versatile. I don’t like him as anything more than a back up on my team honestly. Not if I want to win a championship.

I keep going back and forth....
… trying to figure out If I’d like Biedrins to be a Hornet or not. He is a Horrid FT shooter also.
I sat in the gym on Sunday and hit 32 straight without trying that hard,,,, how on Gods green earth does an NBA player shoot 16% for a season??? Pretty sure he is much better than Oak on offense.

Not Really
As I said, his numbers are inflated by that system. He has no offensive moves at all. He’s basically a garbage player who scoops up rebounds and puts them back. Emeka Okafor is a much, much better player than Biedrins.
After all the moves they’ve made this summer, if they made this move just to save some money I’d be very upset.

Melo
This guy is overrated. He’s never done anything of significance in the NBA. His defense, the Hornets’ weakness last season, is suspect to say the least. His commitment to winning is questionable.
It’s hard to understand why people want him so badly to be on the hornets.
Agree 100%
