The 2010 @tH Approval Ratings: James Posey
Positives: Career highs in defensive and total rebounding rates, and um. Career low in usage?
Negatives: Highest foul rate of career, poor defensive performance against perimeter players (more average against PFs), lowest ORtg since 2004 with Memphis, lowest 3P% since that same year, PER of 8.7 was career low and the lowest in the NBA for any player that played at least as many minutes as Posey
My Grade: 1

I Was Generous, Gave Him A 2
When the Hornets won the division in 2008, the next step to winning a championship looked as if it was taken when the team nabbed a clutch, defensive player in Posey who had won two NBA championships with the Heat and the Celtics. The Hornets paid to get Posey, but it looked worth it initially. However, the deal did not worked out at all for the Hornets. Things got worse this season as Posey looked really old really fast and struggled with his shot all season long. Although he struggled, he still finished a lot of games for the Hornets and helped them with some stability off the bench with all the injuries this season. Being forced to play out of position a lot this season probably didn’t help matters either. But no matter the excuses, Posey was really bad at times this season and was merely good when he did play well.

Very generous...
Posey brought nothing to this team other then maybe leadership. He couldn’t shoot, score or do what he is supposedly good at, “defend.”
I loved when we signed him but each day that went by I loathed him more and more.

Way below expectations and not worth his salary, but....
When he wasn’t doing something REALLY dumb has was playing smart. He was one of our best rebounders, and I think he really helped Collison over his first 10 or 15 games being a steady influence who could help him bring the ball up under pressure. The most frustrating thing was his lack of conditioning, but some of that was probably the recovery from the prior year’s injury. I loved the motivated cool smart Posey from Boston and pre-injury 2008-9. I was glad to be rid of the don-’t-give-a-damn out-of-shape 2009-10 version. I gave him a 2 because he was way better than JuJu.
No Brainer
If he doesn’t deserve a 1, who does?

Also Will Say This
Posey brought a bit of an attitude and an edge to the team that’s really missing from this year’s squad. Outside of him and possibly David West, the Hornets are a bit…. I don’t want to say it …. but they’re a bit soft. Posey would at least go in and give a hard foul or send a message to the opposition. I can’t see anyone else on the team doing that.
I really liked Posey (always have). I don’t think I wanted anybody to succeed with the Hornets as much as I have he and Julian Wright.

Another reason to sign Lou Amundson

Well
That’s true but I think Amundson is more hustle and energy than he is edge and swagger. That’s what I was getting at.
But you’re right.
