The 2010 @tH Approval Ratings: Emeka Okafor
Positives: Remained one of the NBA's best individual rebounders and shot blockers, posted a 110 ORtg (4 higher than career average) despite the loss of Paul for much of the season, played in 82 games for the third straight season
Negatives: Lowest TS% and eFG% in four years, lowest DRB% and total TB% in four years, struggled defensively, worst FT% of career
My Grade: 3

Okafor Will Always Be Wrongly Judged
Because he’s following up Chandler. Chandler was popular not only among the Hornets fans but in the locker room as well. I’ve heard people question why the Hornets traded Chandler for Okafor and if they gave up on Chandler too soon; he’s played 90 games the last two seasons. They simply couldn’t wait on him any longer. Okafor provided stability at the center position this season and, although he was painfully average last season, he’s better than his numbers indicate. I expect him to come back and have a good season this year (especially with a full offseason and preseason to prepare). Also, he played through some injuries last season as well. Even though he played all 82 games, Bower said he didn’t practice the last six weeks of the season because of an ankle or a knee injury. That’s probably a big reason why his minutes dipped so severely.
I give him a 3.
"You play to win the game."
Make Your Free Throws, DAMMIT!
I took off a full point (rated him a 3) for suckage at the line, and the resulting reduction in minutes. If all he does is get back to being a good FT shooter and keep everything else the same, I would be satisfied with his individual performance. If he could add a little passion and enthusiasm I would be really thrilled to have him for the rest of his big fat contract.
Remember Monty Williams...
…developed Joel Przybilla from a sub-50 percent Free Throw shooter into a 66+ percent free throw shooter. I have no reason to believe the same won’t happen with Okafor.

I wrote a piece about Okafor...
…and how I expect him to do this season. I really see Chris Paul’s return as a big boost the Emeka’s development this season. Remember as @tH says, it took a while before Tyson and Paul developed their rapport with each other.
