One of my favorite NBA narratives goes something like this... Steve Nash won two MVPs before he had established his Hall of Fame credentials, making him the first player since Dave Cowens or Wes Unseld, back in the early 70s and late 60s, to win the NBA MVP before convincing the public that he was a Hall of Famer, and the only player to win two. It was his subsequent better -- yet non-MVP -- seasons that solidified his eventual place in Springfield, as he's now strung together seven straight top-flight seasons after four very good ones in Dallas.
At the time, my friends who care deeply about the NBA were tearing their hair out at the prospect of explaining to their children that no, Steve Nash wasn't quite the player that Gary Payton or Jason Kidd was, despite those freaking MVPs. Now? He's a clear-cut Hall of Famer. Charles Barkley was suspect on defense, too. Didn't mean he wasn't insanely productive.
Just another aspect of Nash's amazing career.
