Preseason Game 1: Hornets @ Grizzlies
The Commissioner is likely out of town, or at least out of uniform, tonight, but worry not; some combination of DaJuan Summers, Justin Dentmon, Lance Thomas, Jerome Dyson and Moses Ehambe should be milling about, ready to save the world from Tony Allen's Twitter feed.
Tip is at 7 PM Central, and if I'm not mistaken, there's no local broadcast of this game on either the Memphis or New Orleans side of things. I think radio feeds should be a go for both teams, but no official word yet. In any case, stop by again this evening! We'll hang out, eat some cake, and autorefresh some box scores like the old days.

Given Stern's involvement with getting Gordon to us
(We’d be rooting for Scola and Kevin Martin tonight otherwise)
It’s too perfect.
Yelling out THE COMMISH!!! every time he scores is going to be amazing
For the first time
we have no idea what to expect. Team hasn’t even had a full practice together yet, right?
Auto Refresh some Box Scores
Wow you’re taking me back with that. I swear I did that during the Hornets’ last year in Charlotte/first couple years in New Orleans until I discovered illegal streaming feeds. Lord knows what kind of team we’ll have out there but we’ll have about four players out there that will be on the team! As Red said, they haven’t even had a full practice together so it’s tough to expect anything.
But you play to win the game, baby! Basketball’s back!
"You play to win the game."
"...and autorefresh some box scores like the old days"
Nice. Now that sure brings back some memories ^^.
The best part about all those auto refreshing boxscores is you could also kind of imagine the shots and game flow in your mind.
The NBA Channel....
Hopefully during the broadcast of their game, they’ll show a couple of live minutes of other games & at least Memphis will put it out on tv . Kinda hard to believe that Memphis’ area aren’t ready to show the game bcuz it sells tickets in both cities. This takes me back to 09 when CP3 was out & Collison & Thornton ran the show for a while. The crazy part was even then it was entertaining. The preseason will be hard to swallow but by the start of the regular season with our new guys(Gordon, Kaman & Aminu) running with the Green, Jack & Co, I believe this season will be entertaining.
If Anything
Between Jack, Ariza, Okafor and Landry we have a bunch of scrappy overachievers. The team, especially under Monty, will compete every night.

EJ GORDON
i can’t wait for him to play for NOLA.
As a real LAC fan, watching Kaman get drafted 6 after Wade and watching EJ improve every year is something i will miss.
NOLA needs more depth … a lot more.
That's been the story here for a long, long time
Some legit starters and absolutely no depth on the bench. Until there’s a new owner with a willingness to spend, I think the bench issues will remain.
Let's take a moment to enjoy the fact...
…that we now have the luxury of a zero-expectations season. Every time Ariza clangs with an ill-advised three pointer we can say “One game closer to a good lottery pick”. Every time we steal a win from a team with playoff aspirations we can say “this team could be awesome next year. Or the year after.”

Can't have it both ways
Each win we steal takes us further from a lottery pick and each game we lose lowers expectations for next year.
It would be nice if no matter what happenss the result is a win win for NO, but realistically, either being good or not being good is better for NO. They can’t both be equally as good.
Pretty sure
we can’t win every one. Pretty sure we won’t win most of them. Not rooting for them to steal wins but it is nice to be able to pull a decent good from the outcome of every game the team plays. (it kind of feels good to be a fan at times like this, the feeling of promise is fleeting, two, three years tops but let’s enjoy it while it lasts, no?)

don't think they'd bother
Keeping smith quiet. It’s no secret we’re in talks with him and he played last year so wouldn’t be a big announcement… I don’t think, but I’ve been wrong before!

Yeah
We’re right at the salary cap now so whoever it is can’t get more than $5M this year… which rules out Sam Dalembert and Kris Humphries I would assume.
Pryz? Leon Powe? Yeah, probably Jumpersmith

What happened to him? He was somebody I really wanted last year.

3 years though?
Strange.
I can’t see Year 3 or even Year 2 being guaranteed. I guess we’ll find out.
And 7.5/3
Also implies that it’s twice the amount of the league minimum. Smith is most definitely a league minimum player, especially without Chris Paul.
Very weird.
I Guess
They wanted some kind of continuity moving forward? But prolonged time for Smith at C makes me sad and I never was a big Jason Smith guy last year anyways.

I’m trying to keep my expectations reasonable from here forward … fool me once, shame on me … fool me twice, …

Hornets had to over-pay
Landry and J Smith to play here… I thought the only players you over-pay are game-changers
by njennings on Dec 16, 2011 5:20 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Landry I'm fine with
It’s a one year deal, and at worst, he’ll be off the books next summer. We had cap space anyways.
Smith tho..
Yeah that Smith deal is something else
You think Landry will last the entire season here? Kaman? I’ve been quietly wondering if they’re both gone by the trade deadline.
Rekindle the Fire
I’ll miss CP3 and D west and be glad they played here and wish them the best with their new teams. But its time to move forward. I hope we can begin to find that fire we had during the 2008 season. We may be rebuilding but we still got a coach and GM that want to take this team higher. Hopefully, we begin to build a foundation of better team with desire to be better.
Agreed...
I was thinking that, but I wonder if that will happen this year. I haven’t heard a lot of talk about any interested buyers. It might sound strange but I wish we could do something like green bay where the town owns the team. That would be cool.
Stern mentioned at the press conference
That he expects the team to be bought in “early 2012.” Who knows what that means haha
Yeah
I don’t think Stern knows what he’s saying half the time. Kinda like sean payton, he masters the art of BSing everybody, so we’ll see
After landing us this Gordon/2012 pick deal though
he’s earned himself a bit more time.
Heard on the radio the other day that he pulled the Lakers back into a 4 team deal for Paul to get the Clips into giving up Gordon. Whether that’s true or not is also debatable of course. Very confusing week, this.
That's true
I like the deal. I think its better than what we were gonna get from the lakers. Hopefully, this crazy week will end with a win tonight
Hope so too
Tonight and Wednesday nights we can root all out for a win before the tanking debate begins
Here's the current depth chart:
PG: Jack
2G: Gordon (Belinelli)
SF: Ariza (Aminu/Pondexter)
PF: Landry (Smith)
C: Okafor
And positionally, here are our current DLeague guys on the roster:
PG: Justin Dentomon (age 26), Cardell Johnson (age 28)
2G: Jerome Dyson (age 24), Moses Ehambe (age 25), Trey Johnson (age 27), Terrico White (age 21)
SF: DaJuan Summers (age 23)
PF: Lance Thomas (age 23)
So these are guys to watch for today, especially at the point and Summers will be interesting to watch. We cut Patrick Ewing Jr. and Brian Butch © is injured.
So that would make the depth chart:
PG: Jack
2G: Gordon (Belinelli)
SF: Ariza (Aminu/Pondexter)
PF: Landry (Smith)
C: Okafor (Kaman)
Okafor/Kaman
Would give us a very serious presence down low. It would be lumbering and iffy offensively, but we wouldn’t get owned in the middle at least which can suck.
Okafor would play 4 in such sets, though he’s really a 5 on offense.
Monty mentioned
that given how mobile 4s are in the modern NBA, he doesn’t think it would work at all
Surprised
To hear that Ewing, Jr. got cut. I thought he looked OK in the spot minutes he got last season. Don’t see why he couldn’t get the look these other guys are getting.

Clips fan here
I love that picture of Commissioner Gordon. You’d be shocked that despite getting Chris Paul, a LOT of the Clipper Nation was pissed about losing our beloved EJ. He’s incredibly talented, has nothing but upside, wants to win, and is just a really nice guy. So much so, in fact, that to many of us, it felt like trading away a family member and caused a pretty emotional response. Hell, I still haven’t watched the “EJ reaction” video because I don’t think I could handle it. Most of us will continue following his career by watching your Hornets play a lot. For a lot of us, including our blog-leader, you’ve become a second favorite team.
All I can say is to take care of our boys. Kaman has one of the funniest twitter accounts in the NBA (usually not on purpose) and when he’s playing at a pace he likes (which I think the Hornets will play, due to Okafor at PF), he’s really effective. That’s a great front line. Aminu has shown some flashes of greatness, and he could potentially be a pretty great player if he can get some consistency with his shooting and some more confidence. He’s a guy that could take a pretty nice step forward this season, especially in Monty Williams’ offense (superior to VDN’s pick-n-roll offense). These two and EJ are really high-character guys that are all extremely, extremely humble. That’s something I’ll miss dearly. So enjoy these guys while you have them because they’re one of a kind. And GOOD LUCK this season & with that Minnesota pick!

Thanks for stopping by
Looking forward to having you guys on some of the game threads this year.
Very excited to have Gordon. I think he can legitimately be the best #2 option in the NBA (on a contending team). So the Commissioner Gordon nickname works on so many levels… his name, his “behind the scenes” work, and the fact that without Stern, we never would have had him in the first place. Now we have to hope that we can draft our Batman in the 2012 draft, and the Minny pick can hopefully help with that.
Good luck to you guys this year as well. I think if you re-sign a Craig Smith or add someone like a Kris Humphries and shore up front court depth, you’ll be a serious contender for the Finals this year in a relatively weak West at the top.
Gordon will be playing for a contract
I definitely expect a big year from him (barring major injuries). That’s partly because he’s a restricted free agent next year so he’ll have plenty of motivation to shoot for big money. In some ways, this is the perfect situation for Gordon. He is the nr. 1 guy on his team at a time when he can leverage his performance into a big contract (from NO or other teams) next year.
NOLA
wants to wrap up his extension before January 25th, 2012 (the deadline). Hopefully “playing for a contract” won’t be an issue

we won't lose badly
In fact, this team isn’t as bad as people assume. We won’t be at the bottom of league standings, that’s for sure. Still too much talent on this team… and that’s probably part of the problem. We’re only half way into beginning our rebuild.

another clipper fan here...
Thanks for Paul, but Eric is my favorite player in the entire league.
The guy is awesome. His only drawback is rebounding. But the man does it all…even closing. He’ll guard the other teams best perimeter player and do it will.
Kaman…you guys are going to enjoy him….and at other times pull your hair out. He’s set for another breakout year.
Aminu is very promising. He has a hard work ethic.
by the way…..Kaman likes to blow $#!% up….lol a great guy
Nola is now my favorite team outside of LA
