OnPointLikeCP3's Midseason Award Predictions
I think its fairly obvious, what this post is about, but I'll still tell you. I'm going to make predictions for the rest of the season. Feel free to harass me when I fail miserably. Starting off, my MVP predicition.
D-Rose has been a boss this season, racking up MVP worthy stats. I'm picking him, because of the injuries that have hit his team. He's seen Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah, and Taj Gibson go down with injuries. I'm picking him not as much because of his stats, which ARE fantastic, but what he's done with a starting lineup that consists of Keith Bogans, Luol Deng, and even Kurt Thomas, at times .
Rookie Of The Year:
An insanely easy pick, Griffin probably has highlight reel appearance record in his first season. The 2009 first overal pick hurt his knee dunking against the Hornets in a preseason game. This season, his stats have been great. 22.8 points per game, 12.7 boards make him a shoo-in for ROY.
6th Man Of The Year:
JET is always a threat to win 6th man of the year, and this might be his year. He last won it in 2008, but he's making a strong case to win it this year, posting 15.6 points a contest and 4.5 dishes. His closest challenger has been the Hawks' Jamal Crawford, but the Mavs have been a much better team than Atlanta.
Love's big year started off on November 12th. That night he had 31 points and 31 rebounds against the Knicks at home. After that he went off, rebounding and scoring like crazy. He's obviously the most improved player this year.
Coach Of The Year:
Our own, Monty Williams. Monty has done a lot more with less talent than other COY canidates Tom Thibodeau, Gregg Popovich, or Doc Rivers. Though he's made some questionable decisions, most notably, not playing Marcus Thornton, but he is a rookie coach, and will make some mistakes.
Defensive Player of The Year:
You'd have to be insane to not pick D12 for DPOY. It's been a no-brainer for quite a few years now. He's had crazy stats this year, and is just an easy pick.
Well, that's my predictions for the end of season awards. Things never die on the internet, so I'll have to re-visit these when all the awards have been given out.

Yeah
I disagree with the Rose selection but the media loves him so much that I’m almost sure he’s going to receive the award. I mean they seriously love him. If you look at his advanced statistics, his offensive rating, defensive rating and per are all behind Chris Paul’s. Add to the fact that the records aren’t that far apart and I don’t get the argument for Chicago.
People like to point to the injuries, but Chicago went out of its way to spend a ton of money this offseason to put together a deep, talented team. It hasn’t been all Rose.
"You play to win the game."
I'm not saying he SHOULD be the MVP.
I feel the same way as both of you. These are my predictions for who I think will win the awards.

I agree.
D-Rose isn’t half the player CP3, D-Will, or even Nash are.

Nonsense
One game doesn’t make any difference. In terms of efficiency, the numbers are there. Rose’s numbers are better and they’ll probably be even better tonight because he’s dominating the basketball in Thibodeau’s offense. They literally run zero offensive sets in Chicago. It’s just Rose with the basketball and “hey go make a play.” Their no set may be better than New Orleans’ weird sets at times but don’t mistake Rose’s numbers for being efficient.

Never said they were efficient
But you can be efficient and still post worse volume numbers. Truth be told CP isn’t playing to the level we all hope and expect him to and if you think otherwise than you are watching a faulty TV set.

Good picks
but I’ll disagree with a few of them.
Terry is a nice pick but I think he’ll fade from the voters minds once Beaubois returns. return. Moreover, I feel Lamar Odom might even have the edge on him presently.
Most improved as of right now goes to Dorell Wright of Golden State. Dude has been in the league 6 years but only now has his potential exploded. For this reason he barely edges out the Love Beast. Besides these two, I could also see guys like Raymond Felton, LaMarcus Aldridge or Russell Westbrook finish the year strong and take the award.
Wright
Agree with Wright as MOI player. Love Beast has definitely improved, but one could argue that a portion of his current production is simply an extension of increrased playing time. It was continuously a puzzle why coaches didn’t play Beast more in the past considering the numbers that he put up last year in more limited minutes.
My Picks
MVP – Kevin Durant over Derrick Rose. Durant is a stat sheet stuffer and he’s been largely responsible for turning around a franchise which at the very bottom of the NBA for many years. I also find his numbers slightly more impressive than Rose’s. Having said that, Rose has had a great year leading Chicago through various injuries, I could see him also winning it, but I’ll go with Durant this year. I think Rose’s overall efficiency trips him up (44.6% FGs, low AST/TOs, questionable defense still). Durant is the run away leader in scoring and he does it at a very efficient rate. He can do it all on both ends. As good as Rose has been, I think LeBron has been better this season anyway (not that I’m a fan of either player when it comes down to it).
ROY – Blake Griffin. Who else? I think Griffin will be an MVP candidate next year (barring injuries) and could lead the league in rebounding. Injury to Gordon will likely derail the Clippers’ attempt to challenge for the last playoff berth, but Griffin is already possibly the best PF in the game (what do you think?)
6th Man – It’s a very close call. I’ll go with Jet over Crawford as well.
Most Improved – Wright stands out. I also think that Beasley, Bargnani, Al Horford, Raymond Felton, Wesley Mathews, Nick Young, Eric Gordon, LaMarcus Aldridge and of course Love, all have some arguments going for them in the MIP discussion.
Coach of the Year – Have to go with Popovich. What he has done with the Spurs is truly impressive, essentially turning their offense completely around while being able to manage nearly the same level of defensive efficiency. All this while playing around some aging superstars and without a true center (or true PF if you call Duncan a center). Spurs have lost only 9 times this season and still have a small shot at the Bulls’ high water mark. It seems almost hard to believe it, but they’d have to be the favorite for the title based on their regular season play. Thibodeau deserves honorable mention, as does Spolestra, just for being able to balance all of those egos. I consider Monty one of the better coaches in the league this year but not quite on the level of coach of the year.
Just my thoughts of course. Reasonable minds may well differ (except about ROY)^^
