Hornets-Magic, Pictorially
At the Hive's Matt McIntosh was on the floor when Orlando played the Hornets in New Orleans. After the jump, take in some of his best shots ahead of tonight's rematch with the Magic.

As always, awesome camera wizardry from Matt. He needs to give me some pointers before I take my fifty dollar camera to All Star Weekend next Friday.
There are rumors that Trevor Ariza could return tonight, so if the three things depicted above- Ariza playing, Thornton playing, Chris Paul scoring- happen against Orlando, maybe we can pull off the upset. Go Hornets.

Sasha has kinda grown on me
His shot isn’t falling right now but, I like his speed and his defense seemed to be pretty good. But I may be love-drunk over the 4 blocks a few games ago. Haha
For the record
Thats not me in the pic and
That dude is rocking equipment about $5000 more expensive than mine.
Heh, that lens *did* look like overkill for a basketball game :)
Looks more like an outdoor sports photographers lens. Out of curiousity Matt, what equipment were you using? (I’m a bit of a photography geek).

I shoot with
a canon 40D and a combination of a 24-70 f2.8L or 70-200 f4L. Its not best suited for indoor basketball (its DARK in there), but Rohan isnt in a rush to get the output so I get editing time. The AP, Getty, etc photographers are uploading straight from the game with minor tweaks if any.
And that big ass lens is an f2 (I think). Definitely usable during a game.
Thanks for the info
I’ve been corralled into taking a lot of pictures of social functions at work, so I hear you on shooting in the dark. “Light! Give me more light!!!”. It’s probably even worse shooting sports, since you’re trying to keep the shutter speed high.
I was thinking more about the focal length when I commented on the lens in the photo. It looks like one of those 300/400/600 mm monsters that could probably give you a close-up of Chris Paul’s pores if you were shooting from court side,
Those are a couple of nice lenses you’ve got. I’ve heard good things about the 200mm f2.8 (non-IS) for shooting indoor sports.

The 70-200 comes in 4 sizes
70-200 f4 (mine)
70-200 f4 stabilized
70-200 f2.8
70-200 f2.8 stabilized.
The price difference from the first to the last is about $1800
Im pretty sure thats a 300 mm f.28 IS lens. $6600
also
You have to shoot at a minimum of 1/500 shutter speed for stop-motion. The combination of other settings means you have to shoot no more than f8 and ISO about 2000. The 40D doesnt do that ISO well, so I shoot in raw and edit out the horrible noise.
