Hornets on the Internets: Oscars Edition
Your morning links. This post actually has nothing to do with the Oscars, but I heard that might drive traffic. In other news, it's Monday. Boooooo.
- If you're into the whole "reliving the horrific recent past" thing, here are a few game recaps for you to peruse from last night: Bradley Handwerger of WWL, Ken Trahan for NewOrleans.com, Mason Ginsberg for HoopDat, and Jake Madison of Swarm and Sting (congrats by the way to James Grayson and SaS for picking up a great writer in Jake). Also check out Hornets247, which I fail to link a specific post from not out of spite but because my browser (Chrome, Win7) crashed a couple times when I tried to open up the site. Hopefully you will not be so unlucky.
- Jonathan Feigen writes for the Houston Chronicle that Landry feels he fits well in New Orleans. A couple quote bullets, aka QULLETES, from that story:
- "I went from 13 wins to almost 40 overnight. I fit right in. Coach Williams told me the first day we were pretty much a defensive minded team, defense first. I like that because defense wins games."
- "He told me just to be myself, be Carl. Really, no pressure."
- The same story mentions that a couple nights after holding Deron Williams to a 3 for 12 night, Kyle Lowry held Chris Paul to a 2 for 12 performance. How much of that is on Chris Paul is for you, the reader, to decide obviously.
- Bleacher Report says the Hornets should relocate. I should warn you that this is two minutes of your life you will not be getting back. I'm not sure why I'm linking it really. I probably should delete this whole bullet point. Yeah. Yep. Mhm.
- Finally, a very important issue: what is the official At the Hive nickname of Carl Landry? Speak now or forever call him by whatever name some other commenter decides.

Carl Landry
That’s tough. His name just rolls off the tongue and I don’t really have any ideas for a nickname for him. He’s kind of like Willie Green in that sense but I’ve taken a liking to calling Green the Green Hornet (after the recent movie that was released) and I like that. As for Landry,
I like the nickname The Landlord. That’s my suggestion.
"You play to win the game."
I like the "Green Hornet"
I also like “The Landlord” since he likes to make the paint his property.
It’s definitely better than Carl Laundry.
I’d also go with Carl “Malone” Landry.
Why Is That
Williams’ nickname? I guess we’ll have to do something different with Land in it lol.

Well, since all the good nicknames, like Fat Bastard, have been taken, I nominate
“Muscles” or “Biceps” or “The Muscle”

Succinctly put
Came across the following excerpt this morning:
This trade provided the clearest answer… just like every other team.
While Cuban and Jackson may not like they fact that New Orleans is being given every resource available to put a winner in New Orleans, the truth of the matter is a budget was set for New Orleans and this deal fit into that budget.
Landry’s contract is an ending deal, so it’s not like the Hornets took on a mountain of debt in the transaction.
The NBA funded the purchase of the Hornets from George Shinn through lines of credit the league has at its disposal, none of the existing owners had to chip in a dime of their own monies.
It’s true that some of the Hornets’ losses will come from profits the league would normal dispersed to owners, however when the team is ultimately sold to someone else, those profits will be shared too.
The NBA owners voted to purchase the Hornets because it would have been terrible business to let the team fold because George Shinn lost the taste for funding the team, it seems a bit hypocritical to then call foul when the team is permitted to do exactly what the league set out to insure when they bought the team.
If the goal was to tie one hand behind the Hornets back and let the other teams beat them up because they were poorly funded, then leaving the team with Shinn would have been the smarter play.
That’s not what the NBA set out to do when it bought the team, and that’s not what the owners agreed to when they approved it… maybe somebody should read the fine print.
Hey Monty,
Do you have any “Gray Q-Pon?” Gray>smith+anderson, Q-Pon>3 guard line up.

Well jack should never play sg anyway
and they are both worse then willie and marco and a name that should not be mentioned
the one thing i hate more than anything about monty
even more than the bad rotations is monty’s stubborness not to play young players he seems like one of those coaches who only likes mediocre vets that he know what he will get than potential filled youngsters that need a chance. And can you explain to me why monty gets so desperate and plays paul 40 plus minutes in games that aren’t close
I think Landry's nickname
Should be something to do with teeth. But nothing along the lines of tooth fairy, because that is one tough mofo.
The Tooth may resemble Paul Pierce’s nickname, but it’s so much better.
Anyways, to Knicks fans posting on the wrong forum, and to all those who work at ESPN, let’s talk about NOW. Not 2012. Because I don’t have a crystal ball, and you don’t, and Chris Broussard doesn’t.
Reppin' the Lafayette Hornets fans.
What Chris Broussard has
are “sources” and a couple of blackberry phones.
Reppin' the Lafayette Hornets fans.
and Carl
can be linked to the German kerl which is like guy in English. But apparently it’s from Old Norse and means “man” or “free man”.
This courtesy of wikipedia.
And I’m done. I’ll leave the nicknaming to those more qualified.
The guy is tough though. Got shot in the leg and had teeth knocked out in two separate games (in one of them leaving teeth in Nowitzki’s arm … )
That was my idea!!!!!!!!
I’ve taken to calling Chris Bosh “The Head”.

Chrome, hornets247
Rohan,
I appreciate the details about the issues with 247. Can you tell me if this probably is new, started just before the season, has been going on forever, etc.?
Everyone else, sorry for the mostly off-topic post up to this point.
About Landry: someone said he looked like a little Emeka out there, to which I replied, “I think I’ll call him . . . Mini Mek.” Ridicule if you like.
Thanks for coming on here
Was going to email you guys today but just ended up being too busy.
I can’t say for sure, but I think it has to do with the podcast embeds. I feel like whenever a podcast post is on the main page, that’s when I have trouble accessing the site. Otherwise it seems to work fine.
Good observations
Thanks for the details. I forwarded them on.

I also wnt to thank you for joining the group here
you know how I feel about you and your soft, wonderful way of poking me in the eye.
You are more than likely 30 plus years younger than I am, but you and Rohan and all of these great young folk are a joy to read.
You are similar to my tennis coach.
He is able to praise the hell out of me and smiling and making me feel so good,…but when he’s all done…I realize he has just torn me apart!
Very cool ability.
The Hornets could sure use an explosive wing player.
Seeing as how the offense shrivels up and dies half the time. Maybe they should look into this “Marcus Thornton.”
29 Points
Played a big role in their comeback in the 4th over the Clippers. I’m really happy for him. Kind of miss him already!

The postgame interview
Was awesome. I feel good for Marcus.
Reporter: What got you going tonight in the 4th?
MT5: The fans man. Kind of reminded me of back in New Orleans.
sigh
At least I can have a 2nd favorite team now.
As A Fan Of A Small Market Team
And watching what Kings fans are having to go through in Sacramento, while enduring another fruitless season, it has to be tough for that city and the players there. Thornton, even here amid uncertainty in New Orleans played hard through all of that and while his contributions didn’t result in many victories last season, effort shouldn’t be passed in defeat as often as it is. He always played hard regardless of the situation.
I hope he continues to blossom as a player.
