Hornets on the Internets: Game 2 Edition

Photo

Good morning, adventurers.

Some great linkage ahead of tonight's Game 2, so let's get to it.

- Let's lead with some great quotes from Arash Markazi's story for ESPN. Full article's worth your time as well.

- Carl Landry: "When you wake up in the morning, you open up the shades and there's Staples Center. Before you close the shades at night you see Staples Center again. It's pretty much all you think about all day."

- Trevor Ariza: "What do we got to lose? We're just out here playing care-free."

- Jarrett Jack: "Trevor has really helped us understand the nuances of the Triangle."

- Didier Mbenga: "I don't agree that 'We don't have anything to lose.' We have the game to lose. We have the series to lose. We're going to come in Wednesday to win. We didn't come in here to steal one game. We're a good team. We want to win this series and we think we're going to win this series."

- Sports Radio Interviews (now an SBNation property!) has a synopsis of Chris Paul's appearance on the Scott Van Pelt show yesterday.

- Bradley Handwerger reports that Aaron Gray is currently day-to-day. Gray has said that the decision will not be his and that he wants to play tonight.

- Monty Williams is not dwelling on the Hornets' Game 1 victory, according to the Los Angeles Times.

- Gerry V writes for the New Orleans Times-Pic that the war is just beginning.

- Alex Raskin asks on Hoopsworld whether, given the recent play of the Lakers, Game 1 was really as much of an upset as most insist it was.

- In terms of the actual game tonight, this link is probably most important- Los Angeles has spent the past two days scheming up ways to keep Paul under wraps in Game 2.

- Wednesday's Game 3 in New Orleans is sold out, and it's likely that by the team you read this, so is Game 4. Tickets for Game 6 go on sale at 2:00 p.m. central today.

- The most watched game of the opening weekend of the playoffs was Hornets-Lakers, with a 12% bump from Los Angeles' first playoff game of 2010.

Game 2 tips at 9:30 p.m. central tonight.

can you damage an ingured ankle more

by playi ng on it?
Or would it simply be a matter of pain endurance? I fyou can cause more damage, this is a tough decision. If not, then good Luck Gray and hope they have some really, really good pain pills.

If it's a sprain

then you can absolutely do more damage to it. However, lateral mobility isn’t exactly a huge element of Gray’s game. As long as he can stand strong in the paint and run up and down the court, I’ll bet we’ll see him play tonight. If not, he’ll sit. Just my guess.

never had a sprained ankle.

torn arm and foot tendons, but never the ankle.
How do you run on a sprained ankle?
Talk about being slower than he is already!!!!!!!!

well offensively paul takes a while to pick the ball

so offensively he should have the time o get up the floor, also defensively he doesn’t jump so u may not have to worry about that. the only thing you gotta worry about is if the lakers decide to run

Anyone catch the Mav's last night?

Peja was on absolute fire. Happy for him but tears me up seeing it help Dallas.

It’ll be interesting to see what Monty does with the Gray monster. Usually during the playoffs if the player says he can go, they at least give him a chance on the floor.

Ariza breaks out tonight...

And Belinelli has a good night.
I feel this because they are going to start working more inside defense, opening it up more outside.
This ONLY works IF Okafor (and if he plays, Gray) establish themselves inside.

Appreciate the optimism, but

with the way CP3 was playing last game, those guys were already getting good looks. I’m with you on Belinelli, but Ariza has to be a slasher and attack the paint to truly be effective.

he sure does...but

I will be happy if he just stays intense on defense!
In fact, I hope the whole team just stays pissed.

Saw A Quote

Now I can’t find the article and it’s frustrating me but I found a quote yesterday where Monty had said something along the lines of “it’s been frustrating for Chris this year because I’ve messed up and called a lot of sets for him when I should have just let him play. What he did on Sunday, I didn’t call that. That was all Chris” or something like that. I thought it was a pretty neat quote.

I don’t care what anyone says, I like Monty Williams.

Speaking of the coaching staff, I posted a link in the fanshots yesterday about how the Rockets are supposedly interested in Mike Malone. It’d be interesting to see who’s really behind the defensive turnaround if he’s asked to leave but I wouldn’t mind seeing P.J. Brown come on board as an assistant here in New Orleans! Either way, that’s totally unrelated to Game Two and entirely down the road. Tonight’s game should be a lot of fun. I’m so pumped for it. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the next 12 hours I’m so antsy.

Maybe

It was something about how the Lakers were trying to find new ways to scheme against Chris Paul.

Oh Also

I absolutely, positively love Mbenga’s quote. While I like that the team wants to play loose, when I read some stories after Game One they were talking about how Chris Paul and them would just sneak across the street to go shoot around at Staples because they couldn’t wait for the game to start. I love that. Whoever’s idea it was to put the hotels right by Staples is a genius. It’s an ideal way for the team to keep their focus on the task at hand instead of maybe getting caught in the LA scene.

But Mbenga’s quote is entirely correct. There’s no such thing as playing with house money. I don’t want to see the team not come out aggressive tonight. I don’t have hope that they can all of a sudden turn on aggressiveness for Game 3 if they do that. Even if they lose, they need to go down swinging. Way to go, Didier!

Perhaps

this is the hotel our team and others usually stay at during the regular season.

by RedHopeful on Apr 20, 2011 10:06 AM CDT up reply actions

Well

In the article it states that some teams will stay closer to the airport. There are other options but that the team decided to stay by Staples.

Even though Mbenga didn't have

the role that Ariza did with LA during those Championship runs he was there. And has played with those guys so he knows how important winning against this team is. And i think he like the fact of being on the floor for some productive minutes against his old team. And i think monty is going to let Chris dictate the offense for the most part and focus on the defensive rotations and substitutions. I have a feeling we’re going to get a great game from Mek, Ariza, and Green this game. Mbenga might even get some points and some blocks too. They just have to keep their win or die mentality on the court and i think we have a real good chance. Especially if all of their “scheming” doesn’t slow down Paul the way they thought it would.

" I’ve never done drugs but I think watching Matty Ice stare blankly towards the field as Drew Brees kneels down while clock hits zero in a playoff game would be like doing cocaine off a strippers @$$#….yeah that good.

Ariza....

Ariza really needs to be more of a slasher and get to the basket. His frame is like Aldridge(Portland) & allows him to adjust in the air and finish and we’ve seen this on several occasions in the regular season. What’s the worst that can happen? Foul him?…….. Shoot FT’s?……. Which is what the entire team, even CP3 needs to practice on…… Can’t miss all those FT’s in playoffs. If we would have made more FT’s, who knows……maybe we’d been up more pts/comfortable margin & Gray wouldn’t have fought so hard for the rebound and twisted his ankle. Just saying…..

Glad Hornets have 2 players that understand the triangle offense which helps alot! Now its really a chess match and our guys just got to adjust/capitalize on lakers’ plays and let the game come to them……Geaux Hornets!!!!

Yes we do need to make our free throws...

but we also need to hope that we at least keep getting the free throws too. LOL! When we get them, we need to take advantage of that situation. Can’t keep leaving points at the line like that.
