Doesn't it feel great to know at least we made the playoffs?

It seems like we’ve wallowed through so much crap as fans that just making it is giving the finger to all those ESPN D-Bags who said we wouldn’t make it.

How does it feel Tim Legler? You spastic.

WOW!

I know the real reason Gray can’t sing…here is a video I sent you guys early on explaining my liking if this big kid.
Here is a kid who call his mom and dad before each game as HIS pregame routine.
And he doesn’t have an ipod…instead giving it to a teammate cause he doesn’t listen to music.
No wonder he can’t sing.

hornets247 gave no love to gray

i know…minor on the stats at the end’s total.
but he came in early with okafor in foul trouble and was an important stop the bleeding.
In fact he was part of two nice floor times and I even enjoyed a small Okafor/Gray combo.
yes…he kind of faded away and shot some hurried jumpers…but it was a nice addition to the team’s defense last night.

hahahaha

you again with gray. You should e-mail Hollinger that he should be included in the MVP talk. Even though he’s so gross & bad I’d vote for him over Rose anyday since he’s a Hornet, for now.

Landry...i saw a different game

I don’t see us winning without him.
But other sights show him having a poor game.
It was a battle out there last night.
And without the hard game by this kid we do not win.
basketball has so many hidden battles going on that the stat sheet will never show.
This is why knowing the game and watching it make up for just reading stat sheet

by ppellico on Apr 7, 2011 8:30 AM CDT reply actions

and how about this...

you need to give some credit to the other team’s individual players.
I saw Belinelli getting played extremelt tight.
I mean, they were on him like white on rice!
In my opinion, this type of defense should allow for OTHER NOH players to have good nights because Belli’s guy is removed, concentrating instead on Belli all night.

This was an awesome game.
The Houston squad was playing at their top game and STILL NOH held them under their averages.
I mean, MOST team would not have come back under this pressure and win.
Very proud of the team AS A WHOLE last night.

by ppellico on Apr 7, 2011 8:35 AM CDT up reply actions

you do realize

you just complimented Kevin Martin for his stifling defense lol.

by DomoKun on Apr 7, 2011 10:38 AM CDT up reply actions

martin didn't work on beleinelli alone

I know, I’m just playing with you ;)

If HOU paid that much attention to Belinelli as you say, I wish Monty could give half that much to him. The Hornets need him on O. He hit that big 3 in the 3Q and then immediately got sat down. But I guess the leash won’t get any looser during the POs though.

by DomoKun on Apr 7, 2011 5:00 PM CDT up reply actions

He got sat down

Because Jack was having a big night. Monty typically just goes with the hot hand, as long as said hot hand isn’t getting torched on the defensive end.

by GeauxHornets on Apr 7, 2011 6:58 PM CDT up reply actions

boy do we need him on offense!

really…he is our only 3 point threat, isn’t he?
If he could be reliable, this really changes the game.

by ppellico on Apr 8, 2011 12:31 PM CDT up reply actions

lol kevin martin = defense like white on rice
you just complimented Kevin Martin for his stifling defense lol.

+1.

Pellico I hope you realize that Houston is 28th in the league in shots allowed/game and 22nd in opposing points/game, yeah?

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Apr 7, 2011 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

well, sorta

Any time the opposing team scores 38 in a quarter, the remainder of the game kinda looks bleak no matter what happens. They scored less than that over the next 2 quarters, but giving up 38? Definitely piss poor defense there.

by mattmc89 on Apr 7, 2011 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions

which poor defense(s) are you referring to?

i kind of saw 4 different teams playiong last night.
First Houston was on fire from outside and the Hornets had no outside defense at all.
Then The Hornets stormed back aand Houston had no answer inside.
The Hornets suddenly came alive with outside defense in the late third qtr and carried it through…sort of again.
They came back from being down and scared the crap out of me until the last 30 seconds became shoot, miss and then foul any Hornet.
And it wasn’t until we were up by over 5 I was able to breath and swallow.

Way to go Hornets!

good luck—eff up the Lakers if you play them.

Unfortunately, I didn't go to the game

And I have Directtv so I couldn’t watch it. Does anybody have attendance numbers? Was the Hive packed? Great win and I’m super PUMPED for the playoffs

Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!

by mknkachow on Apr 7, 2011 10:21 AM CDT reply actions

Far from packed - 12,728

That being said, it was a fired up bunch for how many seats were empty. The place got pretty loud throughout the 4th quarter. Doesn’t change the fact that it was, overall, a very disappointing turnout.

by GeauxHornets on Apr 7, 2011 10:25 AM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

It was disappointing

There was a court-side section full of rowdy Rockets fans and what looked like their version of the Bee Zanies exactly opposite ours. The cheering was so one-sided at the start of the game, mW_, snavetrebor and myself took to booing through the entirety of each Rockets possession for the remainder of the game (ticktock6 was sick and assisted with angry gestures). We had to let the rest of the Hive take over during many offensive possessions to we could rest a little. Im still pretty hoarse. We normally start our cheering/booing/being louder than normal a little later in the game, but the volume of the Rockets fans was enough to entice us to shout them down as best we could. Not in OUR house!

(could anyone else hear us?)

by mattmc89 on Apr 7, 2011 12:28 PM CDT reply actions

I was right above those Rockets fans

in a suite, so I spent a great deal of time screaming at them. It was a lot of fun, because I know they could hear me and yet they refused to respond.

by GeauxHornets on Apr 7, 2011 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I love itwhen you can go to any stadium

really root for your team and NOT get your ass kicked like happened at the Dodger’s game last week.
You simply MUST allow for fans to enjoy the game…as long as it doesn’t get foul mouthed.
Kids are at these games and there should never be offensive fans.
But really bantering back and forth has been an enjoyable part of going to Cardinal games as a Cub fan.
And visa versa when the sea of red shirts showed up at Wrigley.
Man…those were the days!
I love cross town rivalries!!!

by ppellico on Apr 7, 2011 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

That story about the Giants fan in Los Angeles is tragic. I hate hearing stuff like that and people say it’s unprovoked too. I must say I’ve gotten close to altercations but, thankfully, it’s never gotten beyond words when I go to games here in San Antonio in my Hornets jersey. For the most part, I’m very partial but not confrontational and the people who sit in my section are usually nice to me because of it. But it’s other people on the walks to the bathroom and stuff like that where I get the most shit.

Although, I must say, I had a pretty good time last year when the Hornets were already pretty much out of the playoff race and I went to the game in San Antonio. Jefferson was in the middle of a really tough stretch for San Antonio and I kept yelling for the Spurs to pass it to him. After awhile, Jefferson would get the ball and miss and I’d stand up and cheer. Then the fans in my section got pissed when the Spurs passed the ball to Jefferson lol.

All in good fun!

it's ALL about fun...for us fans

I mean, we don’t make it our living. we have other jobs for that.
This is our entertainment.

When I went to see the Hornets play in Orlando I sent pics to you guys live.
I sat front row under the basket.
The guys who owned the seats actually were there in the other seats and we all had a great time rooting against each other the entire night.
It was really fun.
I stood up when the Hornets were doing well and back and forth.
And the discussions during the game were just fantastic.
And they really knew the game and every Hornets player.
It was awesome when the final whistle blew and we had won…they just hung their heads over the railing.
THAT’S what being fans is supposed to be.
Not that sophomoric fighting and crap.

Good that we made it. Hope we can keep the 6th seed.

I’m about ready for the playoffs.

Still Smiling From Last Night

I’m a little nervous about the idea of Paul’s knee being drained, as you don’t want it to be a reocurring issue but hopefully it won’t be.

"You play to win the game."

by MrWayneKeller on Apr 7, 2011 12:58 PM CDT reply actions

Hey Kobe

had his knee drained a lot last year during the playoffs…..and they won a Championship. Its not good to get it drained as many times as Kobe because eventually it will catchup but if CP does have to get it drained i’m for it if it makes his knee feel good enough to play like he did last night. Plus I was told that there was only a little fluid drained out of it. Kobe had syringes filled with fluid every time. I heard CP just had an ounce of fluid drained which isn’t bad.

Time to get swept

Not trying to be a hater, but the chances of the Hornets getting one game against the Lakers is extremely unlikely. Okafor might be able to contain Bynum but there is no answer to Pau or Odom (or Kobe). The Ariza/Artest matchup should be worth watching though.

No reason to assume the Hornets will play the Lakers

Could be the Mavs or Thunder…. Hornets need to try and hold on to this 3 seed with everything they’ve got.

by Caleb462 on Apr 7, 2011 5:16 PM CDT up reply actions

True

They might be able to take a one from the Mavs, but with no real offensive option outside of CP3 the Hornets aren’t in a good spot.

Carl Landry can produce on offense

As well as Jarrett Jack. It’s not to say that the Hornets offense is good, because it’s not really outstanding, but their defense is their true mark. In the playoffs defense matters, and if you can play it your offense isn’t as big of a concern.

Add in the fact that the Hornets offense has actually been coming together better later in the season and taking one game against the Mavs or Thunder is more than plausible.

6th or 8th Seed is What the Bees Need

7th would be our death-knell. We can beat SAS & DAL, but no way we can or should take on LAL :(

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Apr 7, 2011 11:04 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I would even go as far as saying I would rather have the 8th seed

using the playoff machine on ESPN.com and looking at how the playoff bracket is set up. If we are 8th and play SA. If we beat them, from then on we have teams that we can likely beat or give a run for their money until the WCF when we would likely face the Lakers. I would rather avoid playing the Lakers until the WCF than end up playing them in the second round if we beat Dallas in the first. At least if we face SA, who we know and play just as well as we do Dallas, and beat them from then on we have a chance to go deeper in the POs. If we face Lakers in the second round its almost a guarentee we’re getting knocked out in the second round (unless Portland can pull out the upset of all upsets).

basically, we just need to get whatever seed avoids the Lakers for as long as possible

I totally agree with that! I wonder which seed that is at season’s end though :/ Hopefully Monty is gaming for it

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Apr 8, 2011 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Gonna be #6

The difference between #6 and #8 is huge because nobody wants to play the Spurs or the Lakers. We broke down the schedules and found that the Hornets will, in fact, lock up the #6 seed. It’s all about the game vs. Memphis to decide things. Check out the analysis:
