Recaps of Hornets loss to Grizzlies...Quotes from players...Emeka Okafor joins Twitter...Squeaky Johnson interview...Jarrett Jack laughs at LeBron James on Twitter
Wrapping up last night's loss to Grizzlies:
Monty Williams on how the Hornets lost
From NBA.com:
"The turnovers, it’s the same thing every single night. We dug ourselves a hole in the first quarter and every time we’d get back to closing the deficit, we’d turn the ball over two, three times in a row. They (Grizzlies) shot the ball well tonight. With that being said, they only scored 93 points. We don’t have enough to overcome the turnovers. It’s not one or two guys, it’s everybody. Until we conquer that, we only had six in the first half, we had 12 in the second half when we needed to take care of the ball the most so the turnover, but also I thought the first quarter really put us in the hole."
Trevor Ariza on the play of Jarrett Jack:
From NBA.com:
"Jarrett Jack was big in the fourth quarter. He made some tough shots, but we couldn’t come through in the end. Defensively we didn’t get some key stops and key rebounds that we missed. If we come up with those rebounds, I think the game would have been different."
Turnovers Cost Hornets Shot at Win
From Bradley Handwerger/WWLTV:
NEW ORLEANS ― Jarrett Jack chased down a loose ball to the corner, waiting only for the inevitable whistle that would signal yet another turnover, yet another Hornets mistake.
And when the whistle came, Jack shot a look back at Jason Smith, who inexplicably had thrown the ball behind Jack and into the backcourt for a turnover.
The Hornets are a turnover machine, giving the ball away at just the wrong time when they can ill-afford it.
"We were trying to make home run plays," Williams said. "That, to me, is a sign of inexperience. It’s also a sign that guys are trying their best, but there are times when you need to just back up. You don’t need to swing for the fences every single time. Singles would have gotten it done tonight.""It gets frustrating after the second game, third game and then you kind of focus on it and it still bites you," Jack said. "If you come in and you’re like, ‘We have to take care of the turnovers,’ and we still have 18 turnovers. That’s when it’s like, come on guys. We’re better than this."
The question is, are they?

Squeaky Johnson Interview
From Hornets.com:
Best moment in the NBA: "Trying to box out Dirk Nowitzki." [grins]
How he chose his uniform number: "It was actually 0, but it went to Al-Farouq Aminu, so I changed mine to 5."
One thing fans would be surprised to know: "I’m a great chess player."
Favorite thing about New Orleans: "Everything. The people, the accent, just everything about it. To say it in one word, I’d say it’s the swag."
Pregame ritual: "I like to drink three Gatorades and a water, so I’m really hydrated for every game."
First job: "Cutting grass in college. Wouldn’t say I enjoyed it, but I got to know I did not want to do real work anytime soon."

You can tell the team is starting to get frustrated by the losses and that’s a good thing. I think with this squad the frustration will just lead to better practices and more commitment to changing the problems. Hopefully things turn around for the team.

Has anyone been following King's fans on Sactown Royalty?
They’re fed up with Marcus Thornton selfishness. I’ve watched bits here and there and I have to say, for the first time, I can partially see why Monty was so hard on the kid. I’m definitely not saying he wasn’t right in limiting his time as much as he did though as we needed his offense more than his defense many a game.
Yeah
He’s really struggled with his efficiency this season and it’s something I’ve watched myself just from the corner of my eye. I don’t think that was ever his problem here in New Orleans. But now that he’s playing with a coach who doesn’t care about shot selection and doesn’t hold him accountable (it seems like at least from a distance), we’re definitely seeing some irresponsible decision making on his part.
Still like Thornton but he really could have benefited more from Monty.

I would personally love to have Marcus back
…I understood the trade at the time it was made, but it hasn’t worked out great for MT or for Carl-zilla.
Marcus had a comfort level in New Orleans that he hasn’t re-discovered in Sac-town. He was under-appreciated by Monty IMO.

I Disagree
Thornton played fantastic after the trade last season. I don’t know necessarily what’s bothering him this season but he’s shown the ability to get into a rhythm in Sacramento. As for him being under-appreciated by Monty, that’s a fair stance to take and you’ll have plenty of people side with you. But I definitely understood why the trade was made.

I think
you can say there was some logic to the trade AND that Marcus wasn’t properly valued

Yeah
I was one of Thornton’s biggest fans while he was here. Undoubtedly he deserved more of a chance to be acclimated into Monty’s lineups.

Sacto
I’ve been monitoring MT (just like I monitor all former Hornets). He’s played ok, but he’s been very one-dimensional, chucking it up whenever possible.
Sacto is a real mess. Horrible mess. They have some talented wings, including MT, but that team is a disaster.
They’re shooting 38.9% from the field, as a team! Most of their players shoot in the 30s% or less and their center shoots 42%. Flip side though, is that they lead the league in offenisve rebounds. However, they have on average 8.5 less assists than the opposing team—keep in mind that typically, a team may get around 20 assists per game, so having 8.5 less per game is really off the charts. And they don’t bother much with defense.
Going into this season, I thought Sacto might have an outside shot at the 8th seed, but now I think that team just needs to be completely blown up. Although they have a better record than us, I think we have a better team (even though we’re not very good).
Anyway, it’s definitely not all MT’s fault and he’s had some good games this year, but he seems to be validating my view that he can be a 15-20ppg scorer only on a bad team.
MT is a "fastbreak" guy on a "fastbreak kinda team BUT its full of shooters....
For a Guard, MT wanted the D REB so he could run with it and maybe he learns patience and let the game come to him. He wants to show that he’s" that guy " everynight but so does the rest of a team loaded with shooters. He’s a young guy with younger guys starting with him. He’ll be straight BUT will the Hornets see that poor FT shooting is killing the team as much as the turnovers.
