Going Back to OKC

Is always a fun trip for me to watch, personally. I look very fondly back on the time the Hornets spent there and I always enjoy watching them go back. As was covered earlier this year, now with Chris Paul and David West gone, it’s less and less nostalgic for the fans that are there and I wonder if that aura will kind of disappear as time goes on. Onto the game itself, tonight doesn’t seem like the most ideal time for the Hornets to break the losing streak (wins seem so distant now)… but they’ve been competitive for the longest time. These games are winnable for them… they just need bounces to go their way. Having Ariza back to guard Durant will certainly help the cause tonight but I worry about the Hornets playing on the road tonight. We know they’ll compete and we know they’ll play hard… hopefully that’s finally rewarded with a huge win tonight in OKC. As they say, that’s why they play the game. I have hope!… hope, at least.

Go Hornets!

As always

I very much enjoy reading your optimism before each game

by Rohan on Jan 25, 2012 6:53 PM CST up reply actions

lol

Maybe blind optimism?

And

I always stay away from game threads because I’m superstitious about it but… maybe after a 3-14 start I can find my way onto a game thread consistently…. but definitely not tonight lol. I’m still holding out.

I mean..

these games * have * been close, almost universally

by Rohan on Jan 25, 2012 6:55 PM CST up reply actions

How Awesome Would It Be

To have the Hornets pull off the huge upset and, after the game, have the team announce Gordon is locked up to an extension?! I may cry tears of joy.

lol

I secretly find solace in the fact the Hornets will get a high draft pick but, certainly in the moment, it pains me when they lose. Anyways… time to hid myself for the next two and a half hours.

Let's go Hornets!

Nice write up thias morning Rohan. Also since I like posting news on this site. No Kamen tonight 100% healthy scratch, YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!

Kaman Being Traded

I don’t know if I’ve done anything to deserve that.

And I worry about getting another player back for Kaman just because…. the player probably won’t be any better than Henry or Belinelli (if he’s a wing) or any better than Ayon or Jason Smith (if he’s a big guy).

You know something??

19th could end up being a pass-first PG.

I agree

Wroten could fall in that range too

Hopefully a pick, but I dont like the henry reference,

We know what we get with Belli. not so much with professor X

by 247_Hornet on Jan 25, 2012 7:02 PM CST up reply actions

I thought

Chris Kaman couldn’t be traded until sometime next month…

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 7:04 PM CST up reply actions

So...

Kaman would need to be traded to a team with serious cap space or the Hornets are taking a considerable contract back (doubt that). So who has $6+ million in cap room in the NBA?

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 7:14 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Haha

was looking myself.

Have to think it’s a trade or injury – why else kill his trade value? Since a 1 on 1 just seems improbable, should we assume it’s injury or some personal reason?

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 7:21 PM CST up reply actions

Ok

just heard it’s not injury reasons. Could still be something personal…

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 7:23 PM CST up reply actions

Wow

can’t rebound early

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 7:22 PM CST reply actions

Hmmm

So Smith in for Oak…no Ayon.

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 7:34 PM CST reply actions

Yup

Liked his awareness to put arc on it to avoid shot blocker.

by m-W on Jan 25, 2012 7:50 PM CST up reply actions

Aminu

looking good early.

Can tell Henry needs time to just get comfortable…missed an open layup.

Ya know

we’re not playing all that bad. We’ll need that Monty special D though in the 2nd half.

Yeah

60 pts allowed is rough

by Rohan on Jan 25, 2012 8:17 PM CST up reply actions

AYON looks good

Also Professor X is not afraid to take it to the hole, I guess that can become a good thing.

by 247_Hornet on Jan 25, 2012 8:22 PM CST reply actions

Henry

This is first game action since April? Let him get into a flow before we go passing judgment.

Has anyone in the league improved more

..than Serge Ibaka over the last three years? He has really become a skilled all around player.

Hes a Beast,

he was always good defensively but now he has a couple of good moves offensively and hes only 22

by Taquito on Jan 25, 2012 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

Actually, this has been his only good offensive performance this season

He’s pretty much sucked otherwise. Always been good defensively, though.

Additionally!

Min is beating Dallas 61-58 :(

by Ezio_Auditore on Jan 25, 2012 9:01 PM CST up reply actions

I think we're ready to give Ayon bigger minutes

14 pts, 2 steals 1 block 2 rebounds(1 offensive) in less than 14 minutes, i can see Kaman or Landry traded soon

by Taquito on Jan 25, 2012 9:01 PM CST reply actions

Starting PF - Gustavo Ayon

I need to hear this next time I’m at The Hive.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:02 PM CST reply actions

Can't believe

he’s been stuck on the bench of late too

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:02 PM CST up reply actions

Guys

this is the proclaimed West. Conf team that is going to be in the Finals.

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:03 PM CST reply actions

No way

there is anyone better at setting screens at Ayon. He does it quickly and gets it perfect everytime.

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:06 PM CST reply actions

Ayon's steals

are just like a guard – never seen a big read the offensive player around him so well

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:08 PM CST reply actions

Does Ayon

Have any brothers?

Taking it to the basket

Is where his offensive game needs to start. He has the tools to be an effective slasher.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:16 PM CST up reply actions

Aminu and Ariza

you’d think both of them together would be disaster but something is clicking for the youngster tonight

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:14 PM CST reply actions

Ariza+Belinelli

Going 2/15 so far. That just isn’t going to win ball games.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:17 PM CST up reply actions

Can't wait to see how Gordon fits

having to rely on Beli’s outside jumper just makes me want to hurl when you consider the price we pay for having him on the floor defensively

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:16 PM CST reply actions

It seems the more minutes he gets in games the better he looks.

Just tell him to pick up his dribble then drive he can get there in 2 steps, Aminu’s stride is huge

by 247_Hornet on Jan 25, 2012 9:17 PM CST reply actions

I am getting very tired of watching

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:19 PM CST up reply actions

Oh well

saw a ton of positives though

Love the A&A combo – Aminu/Ayon

by RedHopeful on Jan 25, 2012 9:20 PM CST reply actions

Too many

Misses on WIDE OPEN jumpers in the fourth.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:21 PM CST reply actions

I agree

Then the bench unit of Vasquez-Belinelli-Aminu-Landry-Smith could work well together. Enough of those players hypothetically stretch the floor (especially as a second unit) to give Vasquez room to operate and Aminu space to slash.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:30 PM CST up reply actions

Although...

Once Gordon is back I don’t see how Belinelli sees the court unless he is burning down the arena.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

Fast Break?

Vasquez-Henry-Aminu-Landry-Smith is a very athletic lineup, especially as a second unit. They should be able to turn up the intensity on defense and create easy scoring opportunities. All of them have range to 18 feet at least and if I was Coach Williams he would be ordered to take the ball to the hoop until he’s being called on charges 2+ times a game. He is a pretty solid finisher and effective when he only has to dribble once or twice.

by usnfish on Jan 25, 2012 9:35 PM CST up reply actions

There were a lot of positives in the game tonight

50 points from the bench
Great play by Ayon
Aminu better…but STOP with the full court dribble already
J Smith continues to show surprising toughness
Jack had his moments. So did Landry
Henry looks to have potential for sure

But Ariza and Beli were horrid
