Notes

- Atlanta would appear to be a potential destination for Hornets center Chris Kaman with the loss of All-Star Al Horford for the year. (Houston, Indiana, and San Antonio have been reported so far).

As noted on Friday, Kaman can be included in multi-player deals before February 14th, as long as such trades are layered single-player deals, but there would need to be trade exceptions involved. The Hawks' only trade exception is the $1M exception they acquired in the Jamal Crawford deal, clearly not large enough to be a significant offset relative to Kaman's $12M pre-trade kicker salary.

- Marvin Williams has been one of the league's hottest players through one month, shooting a ridiculous 47% from three.

- Atlanta has been a plus defensive side, bolstered by their propensity to avoid fouling; in general they're above average in the four factors of defensive play (allowed effective field goal %, defensive rebounding, fouling, and forcing turnovers) so the Hornets' offense could have its hands full.

- Your opposition perspective for the night is at Peach Tree Hoops.

Go Hornets !

When need to be careful a little win streak might happen. I cant believe we still only 7 or 8 games out of first place.

Rohan

Have you heard anything else on this trade? I do not think Dale wants to let Kamen sit for to long without moving. Last I heard a exec said 1st round unprotected and 1 young buck. I say let’s grab Flynn and NY 1st from the Rockets.

Haven't heard anything else

But personally, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the team does indeed wait for the Feb. 14th multiplayer deadline. It’s more likely they can get close to the asking price if they have more room to maneuver.

Agreed

Avoid injury and let his recent poor play become a decent memory.

by RedHopeful on Jan 29, 2012 7:26 PM CST up reply actions

Not horrible,

I just wonder who people will think is this team starts winning a few and all of a sudden there back in the race. Obviously the players will be happy because they do not want to lose. However the fan base is another story.

I wouldn't say horrible

It’s a realistic feeling that I imagine quite a few fans are struggling with. If there is a positive …..I guess it would be that whether we win or lose……we are still winners.

Flynn and the Knicks #1

Doesn’t work with salaries matching right? The Hornets need to take back at least $8 Million or so. $8 Million x 150%=12 Million, roughly Kaman’s cap number which does not include the trade kicker. Rohan walked through the Stepien Rule but I think it may be a misapplication. The Stepien Rule as I understand it does not allow a team to trade their own first round pick in consecutive seasons. The Rockets in this scenario would not be trading their own pick, but New York’s. I think getting Minnesota’s #2 is more likely. Of the rumored trade partners I think Houston matches the best.

The Knicks’ first may be more valuable than Minnesota’s at this rate (and I expect they will be less than likely to give it up). Flynn at $3.4 Million means the Rockets would need to offer up another contract around $4.7 Million or more. Thabeet is the only contract that matches dollars-wise.

Flynn has 80 total minutes played this season and Thabeet only has 19. It isn’t like either is getting off the bench. They are probably 12 and 14 on the Rockets’ bench. Both come off the books as RFA’s next year.

How Dare You Forget to Mention

That tonight is the return of two former Hornet greats! We have the return of “The Green Hornet” Willie Green & also of Jannero Pargo (who, probably because Kirk Hinrich is back, may not get off of the bench). It’ll be fun to see Willie come back to New Orleans. After all, he may have been an agitating chunker who made everyone groan with each jump shot, but he was OUR agitating chunker who made everyone groan with each jump shot. Or, maybe not. I know I always liked him for some reason. Hopefully he doesn’t try to go all Kobe on the Hornets tonight. Or, maybe it’s better off if he does decide to. Atlanta’s one of those teams that can come out and beat anyone on a nightly basis and then turn around and lose to anyone on a nightly basis. They’ve also been that way for about three years now. You pretty much know what to expect from the Hawks but if they go cold jump shooting (which is possible with the team) then they can have some dog games. We’ll see if the Hornets can avoid a dog game offensively themselves.

Go Hornets!

Yuck put your arms up to atleast contest the shot.

Also Emeka needs to stop thinking he has developed some form of dribble offense. He can score with the back to basket or open for a short shot but not contested shoots or dribbling.

This is ugly

I hate to see guys not even try to fight for a rebound.

Honestly I never likes willie.

I always felt he retarded Belli’s and Thortons playing time.

If...

We still had Thorton. He would be an All-Star this year.

I'm beginning to think the Kaman trade

…should require the other team take Beli as well…even if we get nothing in return

This Game

Is so bad. I turned it over to watch Dallas and the Spurs during a commercial break just in time to see Jason Terry celebrating because Dallas almost blew an 18 point lead to San Antonio’s bench. What the hell is wrong with the Mavericks this season?

And I’m sorry that I told everyone Willie Green would go Kobe on us all tonight.
