Notes

- We'll hopefully see a bit more of Xavier Henry tonight after he had a reasonable enough cameo against Atlanta yesterday. It's still unclear why Gustavo Ayon hasn't been given more minutes (especially when games are still close), considering the Hornets' official reason for benching Chris Kaman was giving more minutes to young players.

- Miami has few glaring weaknesses, but they are just average on the defensive glass and below average in terms of fouling opponents. So aggressiveness, both on the offensive glass and off the dribble, will certainly have its rewards for the Hornets.

- Go Hornets.

Question why do you think AYON was taken out so quick?

Maybe they want to let OAK get in foul trouble then bring him in?

by 247_Hornet on Jan 30, 2012 7:25 PM CST reply actions

Have no clue

I think has done more than enough to get more minutes.

I'm curious how many plays he knows

And if that factors into why they don’t use him more.

I don't understand why

Say we get the 4th or 5th pick (not unreasonable) – MKG might be there. Even if we get the 3rd pick, MKG isn’t a bad pick. I think a lot depends on how UK does in the tournament – studies have shown that being on a final four team boosts your draft stock by several spots.

Always hear about how Chalmers sux on alleyoops

amazing he can’t even be decent considering he’s got the best athletes around him

by RedHopeful on Jan 30, 2012 7:38 PM CST reply actions

I think Jack should be in that Kamen trade!

He is playing poorly so he doesn’t get traded. Also Ariza calls for the ball on almost every offense play….but he sucks… very interesting.

by 247_Hornet on Jan 30, 2012 7:45 PM CST reply actions

I guess it's nice that Aminu's problem is dribbling

I think you can fix that easier then teaching shooting or something else. He has a good shot.

by 247_Hornet on Jan 30, 2012 7:46 PM CST reply actions

Wow

ORL has got to be this close to blowing it up…48 points so far and there is a little over 8 minutes left in the game.

by RedHopeful on Jan 30, 2012 7:54 PM CST reply actions

Love him

SVG doesn’t seem to understand his value enough anyways. Jerks his minutes around the most when he’s obviously and I mean OBVIOUSLY their best win producer not named Howard. For instance, just check his minutes tonight

by RedHopeful on Jan 30, 2012 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

Orlando

Is going to collapse once Dwight is traded. Their entire team is built around him. Not unlike the Colts and Peyton Manning. Four shooters who can’t create their own shot are going to struggle without a big man drawing double teams.

by Ezio_Auditore on Jan 30, 2012 8:12 PM CST reply actions

+1

Why not get our young bucks some quality minutes. They play better (especially as a unit) compared to the starters anyhow.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

You know

I’ll agree with 1.5 of that. Just don’t think J Smith will ever be a viable starter so he’s better just developing for a role off the bench. Would love to see how Ayon does. The .5 goes to X – haven’t seen enough of him yet nor should we suppose he’s ready for huge minutes but almost anything has to be better than Beli.

by RedHopeful on Jan 30, 2012 8:25 PM CST up reply actions

And less beli

..I’m sorry, he is the worst excuse for a scoring guard I can ever recall…or at least since Mo Pete, and anyone who came before and after Mo Pete

Wheels

Coming off. It was a good first half. Once our backups get in we’ll bring it close again. And then the starters will get blown out to wrap it up in the fourth.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:18 PM CST reply actions

Thats 2 games in a row where jack needed to put it up and he didn't

His awareness is horrible. Also do you think he numbers are inflated because he is on a bad team?

by 247_Hornet on Jan 30, 2012 8:24 PM CST reply actions

Yes

It’s the “puts up big numbers on bad team” thing that happens everywhere. Mo Williams in Milwaukee comes to mind.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:26 PM CST up reply actions

Sums it up

Great possession there at the end tells you everything about the first team Hornets.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:24 PM CST reply actions

AYON!

GIVE THAT MAN MINUTES!

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:29 PM CST reply actions

Ayon with the steal, sets up the break and we screw it up.

Also, who has ever seen a fast break where all three players run single file? Come on man.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:37 PM CST up reply actions

Aminu and Henry

Show how incomplete many players are that come into the league. My biggest concern about Aminu is he needs to be stronger with the ball, my biggest concern with Henry is that he has a very slow release on his shot

"I've seen George Foreman shadow box, and the shadow won." Muhammad Ali

by BenDerDonDat on Jan 30, 2012 8:37 PM CST reply actions

I actually get really excited to see Aminu on the court.

He is just so athletic and you are waiting for the breakout performance. But then the mistakes and I start reminiscing on the Ju Ju experiment. I still have hope!

Ayon again!

Sloppy

I’ll keep it simple

I guess I can go anywhere I want. If only I knew where to go-Layne Staley

by AcquiredPanic on Jan 30, 2012 8:37 PM CST reply actions

Should be the starter IMO

unless we land a bonafide ready PF in upcoming draft. He’s easily better than Landry/Smith.

by RedHopeful on Jan 30, 2012 8:41 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed!

Anticipating a number 1 pick- PF. Ayon’s game is definitely looking good against the 2nd units. Wonder how his game would translate with he starters…

by Downtowndave78 on Jan 30, 2012 8:48 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Why pigeon hole Ayon

As a PF? At 6’10" 250 I think he’s capable of playing center as well.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:56 PM CST up reply actions

Why cant he start?

This just a question in general he has all the things you need?

by 247_Hornet on Jan 30, 2012 8:42 PM CST up reply actions

Haha he just ate up space

For that drive to the hoop for Vasquez. It was weirdly effective.

by Brian Ball on Jan 30, 2012 8:42 PM CST up reply actions

Fundamentals

Ayon is miles ahead of nearly everyone on the roster in fundamentals. He doesn’t dribble into corners, pick up his dribble in bad spots, he can pass the ball (which we struggle with even on basic passes), he rebounds, he has excellent court vision for a big, he’s long and he defends. Please start him. This isn’t college where you have to wait on the senior to graduate to get minutes. Ayon should have them and he should have them now.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

But unlike college

where win now is even more important, Monty wants to make sure he’s ready + we showcase everyone who is expendable. I’m telling ya, after the trade deadline he’ll avg over 25 min.

by RedHopeful on Jan 30, 2012 8:46 PM CST up reply actions

And then

Forces two consecutive Heat turnovers. Please give that man minutes.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

Since the Hornets led 45-33

They have been outscored 72 to 35…no wonder King James and D Wade are laughing on the bench. Or maybe there just sharing notes on Heat dance team….

"I've seen George Foreman shadow box, and the shadow won." Muhammad Ali

by BenDerDonDat on Jan 30, 2012 8:44 PM CST reply actions

Aminu

That is his game. That is what he needs to be doing. Take the ball to the basket. Utilize your athleticism and length.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:46 PM CST reply actions

Gustavo Ayon

Just looks like a basketball player. And not just a decent one, but a good one. An exceedingly competent player who set screens (and slips them very well), plays defense and finds open teammates. Also he’s 6’11", athletic and is an absurdly cheap $1.6 M a year.

by usnfish on Jan 30, 2012 8:52 PM CST reply actions

Yeah

I keep trying to talk myself out of this too, but so far, I’ve seen a guy who can be a starter in this league.
