Jamal Mashburn Interested in Owning Hornets
From Ben Maller/Yahoo! Sports:
Jamal Mashburn earned more than $75 million before his career was cut short by a serious knee injury. But he has put together a powerful post-basketball business dossier which includes 37 Papa John's pizza restaurants, 30 Outback Steakhouses, two car dealerships and a real estate company in the state of Kentucky.Owning restaurants is nice, but Mashburn has big dreams of becoming an NBA owner. He's spoken several times with commissioner David Stern about being part of a group to buy the New Orleans Hornets from the league.
"I can be an asset to a team as an owner, not only for my ability to scout talent, but also understand the business side of things. The first all-star of the Hornets comes back to buy the team, it's going to be a great story," Mashburn said.

Pondexter
If you watch the end of the 3rd quarter starting from 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter of the Lakers game, it’s basically a Quincy Pondexter highlight film, as Quincy hits shot after shot while shadowing Kobe on the other end.
Pondexter hit his first 6 shots in this game and they were from all over the court, all hitting nothing but net. He’s definitely worked on his long jumper in the offseason, and his pullup jumper.
He’s going to be a solid player.
Possibly
It’s not a bad move though. Not this time.

yep, we'll see
I think we will miss Quincy for sure. But we’ll see about Vasquez. He’s shown some flashes as well.
Still, I’m keeping in mind that this trade was about need not getting the best talent.
Let’s wait and revaluate later this season.
Question
It’s obvious the team is in rebuilding mode and will not win a ton of games this year.
My question is: what are the chances that Monty’s job is a casualty of the rebuilding process? I worry because losing = more empty seats in the arena (makes this season the best to sell 10,000 season tickets). Will the team hold Williams accountable, even though he is not? And if the team decides he is accountable, CAN he be fired with no owner in place? Will we have a new owner soon that will want a new coach?
AHHH lots of questions. I’m a Monty fan and would hate to see him go during this process.

I'm Worried
For Monty and Dell only because of the chance that new ownership wants to bring in their own guys. I’m not aaaaassss joined at the hip with Dell Demps (although I’d like him to stay too) but losing Monty would upset me.

Monty / Demps
I don’t think there is a major risk of Monty losing his job this season. It would be bad form for the NBA to fire a coach at the beginning of a rebuilding process. Further, a new ownership would be foolish to fire Monty in the middle of the season, a move whcih would probably not be received well.
Demps position is probably even more secure. The overuling of Demps regarding the Lakers deal created really bad PR for the NBA and firing Demps in the middle of the season would just compound that mistake.
Having said all that, the typical tenure of coaches and general managers is very short. I’m guessing that the average is around 2 to 3 years tops, with the median probably being below 2 years. The risk of summary termination is always there for a head coah or GM, two positions which have notoriously limited job security.
New Owner
On a related note, regarding ownership, I haven’t read anything to suggest that any deal is imminent or even in the works. There was that encouraging Mashburn piece, but that seemed to be just noting a general interest and ideas on Mashburn’s behalf rather than an actual proposal.
Unless negotiations are taking place in secret, it seems that Hornets ownership issue may conitnue to be an issue for the forseeable future. That would not be too surprising because the Hornets are a mess at the moment with iffy prospects (brutal but honest).

Where is the game thread???????????????
Belli had a good half finally, also that was a good first half overall.
Yeah
I was looking for it during the day! I don’t do game threads during the game though… it’s too hectic for me. But I was looking to talk about it before the game. Great win by the Hornets tonight.

NICE win Tonight!
Good game tonight I thought the rotations were good, I thought that Summers has a nice shot. Belli finally got it going and didn’t force anything. Good team win, it’s games like this that make you thank that a 100% healthy roster could make the playoffs. Also everyone on the + side of PER !!!!!!!!!!!
