Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE
The Hornets didn't get the win, but Opening Night was packed with all sorts of outstanding happenings. Anthony Davis had a tremendous debut, alley-ooping, shot-altering, and boarding his way to 21 points on 12 shots and 7 rebounds against Tim Duncan and the Spurs. He hit all 9 of his free throw attempts too and showed absolutely no signs of nerves. This guy's the real deal.
The secondary story has to be the play of Al-Farouq Aminu, who, for periods in the second half, completely dominated the defensive end, rotating to deny 7 footers layups at the hoop, playing the passing lanes, and guarding guys one on one. Post-Olympics, this is an entirely different Aminu and one that needs to be the clear starter at small forward if he continues to play like this.
The loss stings, but the Hornets were in it till the penultimate possession. Full recap soon; post your thoughts here!
