Recap: Hornets end Bobcats undefeated streak 97-82

The lineup on the court as time expired was as follows: Cory Higgins, Matt Carroll, Gerald Henderson, DaJuan Summers and DeSagana Diop.

After mounting a double-digit comeback early in the second quarter, the Bobcats came out guns-a-pooping, quickly losing their 11-point lead en route to an eight-point quarter as the Hornets scored 28.

The difference in halves was more than evident. Sporting nearly incredulous 8-14 shooting from behind the arc in the first half, the Bobcats had roared to a double-digit lead. They wouldn't make another three that evening, missing each of their final 11 attempts. They also only made a hair over half of their free throws.

In a battle of who was the best lanky tall white guy with range, Ryan Anderson (5-8 overall, 5-6 from three) barely nabbed the crown from Byron Mullens (5-9 overall, 4-8 from three).

The Bobcats did have some decent scoring performances from Mullens, Kemba Walker, Ben Gordon and a decent all around game from Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and some nice contribution from Bismack Biyombo. However, the Hornets won the game in a few areas: limiting turnovers, solidifying their defense in the second half and thoroughly outclassing the Bobcats in the paint. Anthony Davis and Robin Lopez combined for 40 points on 30 FGA with 22 rebounds, including seven total offensive rebounds from the pair.

Alas, still a ways to go in the Bobcats project. Thank goodness this is only the second game of the preseason.

Oh yeah, and Tyrus Thomas was quite bad.

Bobcats vs. Hornets preseason game No. 2, 2half

Some first half highlights:

Bobcats are 8-14 from three (57.1%) and 23-40 overall for a shooting percentage of 57.5%, turning around a seven-point deficit to a 12-point halftime lead.

Byron Mullens has 12 points on six FGA, all on three-pointers, and Jeffery Taylor had a couple treys.

Ramon Sessions showed some good playmaking (6 assists)

MKG may not have been finding a supreme scoring touch, but he fills up the stat sheet.

Bobcats guards (Walker/Gordon/Sessions/Henderson) combined for 13-25 shooting for 30 points. That group will shoulder a heavy load of scoring throughout the season.

Robin Lopez, a merely mediocre center, abused the Bobcats at center and had 11 points and 7 rebounds in the first half.
