What's Good With the Kings?

The Kings go hard in the paint. Many feel DeMarcus Cousins has been the team's best player (21-20 against the Warriors wasn't a surprise to anyone), Tyreke Evans has looked much more like the rookie version that got to the rim as frequently as LeBron (though not quite consistent enough) and Jason Thompson has been quite a solid weapon in a limited role. Even Marcus Thornton's best work comes driving the lane. The team has been mostly bad defending the paint until the last few games; after Denver dropped a record 93 points in the paint two weeks ago, the team has emphasized that area and packed the lane to prevent layup lines.
What's Bad With the Kings?

But the Kings can't shoot, the ball movement is improving but still poor, the team's defensive rotations are uneven, the bench is wildly overmatched against most opponents, and Evans just can't get anything going once every couple of games. Small forward is a nightmare for the Kings; the only decent solution fans have suggested is pulling John Salmons and moving our point guard, Evans, to the three. That is not a decent solution. But the other options are Donte Greene, Francisco Garcia, Travis Outlaw and a rookie Tyler Honeycutt. The position is a nightmare.
Notes
- Chris Kaman was back with the Hornets for their Detroit trip, and the odds seem pretty good he'll get on the floor tonight. But! There's still a chance Gustavo Ayon starts, which, needless to say, would be awesome.
- Sacramento is the worst defensive rebounding team in the league. No Carl Landry tonight, but if Okafor, Ayon, and Kaman can work on the offensive glass, New Orleans could see some results there. As it stands, the Hornets are the league's 11th best offensive rebounding team.

I actually like Greivis better at PG than Jack.
I think he’d make a great 6th man combo guard like he was last year though. I actually think that strengthens our bench:

we’ve been arguing this almost since day one. Only subsides when Jack has been the only guy playing decent some games.

I haven’t been too high on Jack. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Greivis so far….I think he could develop into something. He has played well despite being so early in his career.

Why is a guy signed off the street...
Going to get as many minutes as Ayon was the past two weeks? It’s possible to rotate Okafor-Ayon-Kaman (and give each only 32 minutes). 96 total minutes at PF-C.

LOL I bet the bigs dont want to pass to him because he will start draining shots and taking it to the hole….which will resort in more playing time for him and less for them. Also Xavier comes in lets his guy pass him going to the hole and he comes out. Marco lets that three happen because he collapsed to much and he didn’t get taken out.

Also something to look at
as to why we are so bad in the second half is the plays or sets we run. Vasquez usually has about 7 or 8 assist by the half but only 2 or 3 in the second half
I like pretty much everything about how Monty Coach's.
except one thing….I HATE HIS ROTATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and how he uses his players.

Take this season at all. I try and take solace in the ping pong balls and joke about the tank with the rest of you but this losing is taking its toll on me as a fan.

Brutal 4th Quarter again
Same old story. Some nice individual results though.
Vasquez another good game under his belt.
Kaman sits out for a couple of weeks then leads us in rebounds and blocks in 22 minutes in his first game back. As spotty as his offense is, he still has good value. After 5 straight games of being outrebounded, including by one of the worst rebounding teams in the league last game, we handily outrebounded one of the best rebounding teams with Kaman back. Kaman can make a difference.
Rocky has been quietly playing better. He seems to have settled down and getting more comfortable in his role.
Ayon got the start and 32 minutes. He’s going to be a solid player, but he’s no world saver.
Henry a decent shooting night, but he is raw.
Thornton… it would have been nice if we still had Thornton at the beginning of this season, but overall, I think Monty was right about Thornton and I’m glad that it’s the Kings who are paying him $7 million to do what he does rather than the Bees. Just a very one dimensional player and one of the worst chuckers in the league. He would have shot himself to the end of the bench on most decent teams but on the Kings, nobody can find the bottom of the net so he gets to keep throwing it up without a care. I’m fine that he’s no longer our problem child.
We’ll be better once our injuries are healed. However, having said that, I’m pretty sure we are now in full “tank mode”. You have to play to win each game, so the tanking is not going down in the game itself, I think it’s more about holding players out until they are completely 110% healed as a matter of precaution, and alotting more playing time to less experienced players. That’s pretty much what our tank is about. But we’ll still win some games later this season, so I doubt the tank can be successful in getting one of the top draft picks. We’ll just have to see.

I still favor the Portland Trailblazers as one of the best teams behind OKC. I think they’ll prove their worth as the season rolls on.
I see Utah dropping precipitously and possibly out of the playoff seeding as the season wears on. I likewise see Denver dropping, though I still think that they’ll earn a playoff berth.
Houston will likely sqeak into the playoffs this year. Memphis will miss it. Too many injuries for Memphis to overcome.
Minnesota is a dark horse candidate with a fair shot at the playoffs. They are one of 3 West teams with a winning road record.
Dallas and Lakers are slowly getting their act together.
People seem to knock Ayon
after one start. They almost went out of there way to not get him the ball tonight it was weird. I think this is just another one of Monty’s you have to earn it ploys. Sick of them.
