Hornets Starters This Season
I mentioned in the morning notes today that twelve different Hornets have started a game this season. At first glance, second glance, seventeenth glance, etc, this is pretty ridiculous. Of the current side (accounting for yesterday's cuts of Squeaky Johnson and DaJuan Summers), only Xavier Henry and Lance Thomas are yet to start a game. Every single other player has started at least once, and outside of Gustavo Ayon, every other player has started at least twice.
But! While this season has indeed been absolutely terrible, it's worth reminding ourselves that we lived through something (arguably) worse, a mere six years ago. Indeed, the 2005 Hornets blow away the current "start" count of 12; the year before Chris Paul arrived, New Orleans started 19 different players over the course of the season.
Here in full are the starters from 2005:

2004/2005
Was much worse. I vividly remember eventually enjoying the season because the team was just so damn horrible but the franchise was saved by Chris Paul that following offseason. All things considered, the Hornets should have been much worse for much longer. This team is bad (really bad) but their are players on this squad that should have a future with the team. I don’t think anyone outside of West played a long term significant role for the Hornets on that team. In fact (just looking at that last), I think only P.J. Brown, J.R. Smith (before he got benched) and Speedy Claxton played big roles in the first year in OKC.
That team was awful. Although, it was fun to watch J.R. Smith & Chris Andersen that year. It’s a shame Smith is a headcase and Andersen got mixed up in whatever he did.

Freije for Threije
..remember it well.
And let’s not forget Dan Dickau, the poster child for over-achievers anonymous.
I think they made a movie about that season that won an Academy Award…The Misfits.
