Bobcats' Corey Maggette out for season

Fighting nagging injuries for much of the season, Charlotte Bobcats F Corey Maggette will sit for the remaining 10 games of the season, Rick Bonnell reports. The news came at this morning's shootaround before tonight's game against the Pistons.

All told, Maggette has missed 24 games due to an assortment of injuries. The one that sidelines him now is a strained right Achilles tendon. Prior to this, he had fought back issues and a strained left hamstring.

This clearly leaves a Charlotte Bobcats team that was already hamstrung with a roster shorthanded on scoring threats and injury bugs even worse off, offensively.

Maggette was not having a particularly great season, with poor shooting percentages, but despite that, he was one of their most efficient scorers, believe it or not even with a 37.3 percent FG%. He also was the best three-point shooter for the Bobcats this season (outside of D.J. White's 1-for-1 shooting from downtown for the season), though you could argue that it's a somewhat small sample size. Regardless, his scoring ability will desperately be missed, as it has been for most games during which he was out. More than that, he was the only real veteran on this team. His defense often left you wanting more effort, but offensively, he laid his body on the line, always welcoming contact. One of the few Bobcats unafraid to drive into the paint, Maggette will be sorely missed in the upcoming games, and I don't think I'm exaggerating.

Again, maybe the Bobcats could sign a D-League player to a 10-day to at least add a body at small forward. But if they haven't done it by now with all the injuries that have come and gone, I doubt they will.

Why. WHY. WHY COULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN THE OTHER CORY.

(just kidding, C-Hig, luv ya 4 eva n eva)
