Paul Silas not returning as coach of Bobcats

In a move that should surprise no one, the Bobcats have announced that they will not renew Paul Silas' contract as head coach. Silas' tenure as coach lasted nearly a season and a half, marred by subpar rosters and injuries during a rebuilding process that is currently ongoing.

This leaves a clear opening with a handful of apt coaches that could take over, some of whom's names have already been floated around as rumors, including Stephen Silas, Nate McMillan and Mike D'Antoni.

And so begins the process of re-whitewashing the culture of the organization after a historically awful season.

Silas, once the popular head coach of an undervalued Hornets team for the team's final years before moving to New Orleans, returned late in December of 2010 in the wake of the team cutting its ties with then-head coach Larry Brown. Silas, though dealing with a sub-mediocre roster battling injuries, managed to help the team surprise opponents even after Gerald Wallace was traded to Portland and Stephen Jackson was sidelined for weeks at a time with hamstring problems.

The team further underwent its stringent effort to rebuild, leaving a young roster short on talent. The lockout exacerbated troubles, leaving the team with a couple weeks to pull together for training camp, signing free agents and even less time to pull Biyombo out of his contract situation with Fuenlabrada in Spain.

The team won its first game of the season, but would ultimately win only six more of the remaining 65 games. The team was frustrated, often lacking focus and fought injuries constantly. A horrible combination for a horrible team, and only history awaited the end of the season as the Bobcats finished with an NBA record low winning percentage.

And he got into a spat with Tyrus Thomas in the locker room, which was barrels of fun for everyone.

Now the future of the coaching spot is in limbo.

Stephen Silas has long been a guy who could be next in line, and I was in favor of this last season, but after this season, I just don't know. I kind of want an established coach. A Rick Adelman-type coach. I'm not sure there's one out there, but I am not sure of Stephen Silas to take the reins right now.

Mike D'Antoni was rumored to have connections months ago after the Knicks fired him. Former Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan is a name that could come up. Bonnell also floated Patrick Ewing's name out there as an option. Ewing had been a possible target for the coaching gig after Brown's departure in 2010, as well, before Silas' hiring.

I'm not sure who the next head coach will be, but I'm always in favor of God Shammgod because GOD SHAMMGOD IS OUR HEAD COACH sounds really awesome. Also, Charles Oakley would be fun and might include more choking, which is neat.
