Today was the first day of the NBA draft combine. Understand that this is far different from the NFL combine. For one thing, a lot of players are not made or broken from the NBA combine. It is shorter sessions, showcasing basic fundamentals. But it's always fun to read about future prospects and get a glimpse of who could possibly be the next player donning the Hornets jersey.
NBAdraft.net had a very nice write-up highlighting day one of the combine. The fans of Lillard and Terrance Jones will be happy to read. I think the areas of concern about Kendall Marshall may have been evident. It's understood that he is the definition of "pass-first" PG, but his shooting is absolutely awful. I do think that Marshall could be very good for us, but don't be surprised if defenders play several feet off of him, with no fear of his jump shot. Like I have said, I like Scott Machado in the 2nd round for a PG. I think he has the ability to be just like Kendall Marshall. And I'm also a huge Jae Crowder fan, and he did exactly what we know he can do. He played hard, defended men bigger than him, and did what needed to be done to produce. They measured him 6'3 in socks, but I haven't ever seen anyone play in socks so I don't know why they even do that.
I am not a big Wroten fan, and it showed that he was unable to hit shots at the combine. Kim English showed very good skills, and also a lot of hustle that we like to see. Perry Jones ran with the 4's, although I suspect he will see more action on the wing in the league. And he did not impress. Terrence Jones had a good showing. I wasn't a big fan of him at the 10 pick because I see him as too much of a tweener. But if he shows good skills at the PF spot, with back to the rim moves, he could be a nice addition. Although we should already have our PF with the #1 pick....
