Charlotte Bobcats vs Toronto Raptors game preview

Mike McGinnis

Gametime: 7 p.m. EST

The Bobcats return home after taking down the Knicks for their first road win in their last 16 tries to take on the Toronto Raptors, who are also on the tail end of a back-to-back.

Toronto was edged out last night by a LeBron-heavy squad missing a defensive anchor in Chris Bosh who rested at home to celebrate the birth of his child with his family. The Heat tore apart the Raptors especially in transition, scoring 16 points of of 15 turnovers and scoring 11 fast break points to Toronto's two. Miami also excelled off of excellent ball movement, getting 31 assists on 41 total made field goals as the Raptors had 15 assists on their 31 made field goals. Meanwhile Jonas Valanciunas had a strong showing with 18 points and nine rebounds, four of which came on offense.

Rudy Gay's a threat on offense, to both the Bobcats (against whom he scored 53 points on 34 FGA in the last two TOR vs CHA games last season) and to the Raptors (he's shooting 32.3 percent from the field this season! And on only 16.25 shots per game! What a deal!). He can draw fouls and shoot from deep, but he's also a volume shooter, capable of scoring in bunches or struggling to score, period.

DeMar DeRozan, however, has been rather terrific as a scorer thus far. Though not blessed with outstanding field goal shooting, DeRozan has more than made up for it with a decently effective three-point shot and a penchant for getting to the free-throw line.

The Raptors' best asset so far has been their offensive rebounding, which leads the NBA. They lead the league in second-chance points with 87. Unfortunately, the Bobcats are the seventh-worst in second-chance points defense.

This game also completes the Former Starting Bobcats Point Guards Back-To-Back with Raymond Felton last night and D.J. Augustin tonight. Augustin hasn't quite had an illustrious post-Cats career, however. He was a notable weakness for the Pacers last year due to poor shooting and inability to play well against defensive pressure. Last night was another page in that chapter with 0-for-0 shooting, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 0 points, 3 turnovers and 2 fouls.
