Charlotte Bobcats new head coach, Steve Clifford, continues to add pieces to his coaching staff. Former Knicks center, Patrick Ewing, has signed on as the associate head coach. While Ewing continues to assert he’s more than a big man coach (a point he reiterated this morning on the Mac Attack), it seems clear that Clifford is assembling coaches with varying strengths, and coaching Bismack Biyombo and any other young big men would seem to be a logical job for Ewing. Clifford also chose to retain Stephen Silas, presumably for some familiarity for the players and also because of his ability coaching the offensive side of the ball.

Today reports have surfaced that Clifford will be adding two more coaches to the staff. Former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket and Cleveland Cavalier, Mark Price, will be joining the staff, a report the Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell confirmed. Price, the original sharp shooting point guard, has made his mark as a shooting coach, with stints in Memphis, Atlanta, and most recently, in Golden State. In addition, Price worked with Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo on his shot and his assistance could certainly be used to help another young player with an awkward shot, last year’s number 2 overall pick, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

Clifford has also reportedly plucked another Warriors assistant coach, Bob Beyer, to join him in Charlotte. Beyer joins the staff with 24 years of experience in both college and the NBA game. Beyer had previous stints with the Magic and Raptors as well as multiple stops in college, including serving under “The General” Bob Knight at Texas Tech.

Clifford, Ewing, Beyer, and Price all served under Stan Van Gundy during his time as head coach in Orlando. Beyer and Ewing were also seen as potential candidates for new Kings coach, Michael Malone’s staff, but both will be on the sideline for the Bobcats. In assembling his first staff as a head coach, Clifford has assembled a diverse well-rounded group with varying specialties. The results the staff garners won’t be known for a while but, for now at least, it looks good on paper.
