Building on the Bobcats roster to improve the Hornets roster

So we are now 35 games into the season and the team is what it is at this point. We have had a chance to look at the where the Cats have improved (defense/young talent) and where they still need growth (leadership, consistency, finishing), Wanted to throw out a thread on how to improve the team through the draft. What kinds of players do we need and where?

Cho has not shown support of trading away picks/young players to make a splash/push into the five spot. I think he is looking to take the pieces he has and improve the team through the draft, Its a much more fun team to watch and see if how these guys grow. For me I can now see how a player here or there and player growth would really improve this team.

Here are some thoughts of areas to focus.

  • Shooting with range. Bobcats cats can't do it. Tolliver currently leads the team on 3 pt%. Yuck. Spending a second rounder on a player like Shabazz Napier (UConn pt guard) or Fuqau Edwin (Seton Hall SF). Little Risk for a mid second rd pick but could they could grow into the position and both have shown some good consistency in range.
  • Back up 2 guard. Gordon will be gone. Phew. Henderson may be gone after next year. Biggest need area? I believe in taking best talent at your spot in the draft but I think the 50/50 pick falls towards here. Best match in the upcoming draft? Gary Harris from Michigan State? Is he just to close to Henderson? Wayne Sheldon from Kansas?
  • Back up point. I think Sessions contract is up this year. A passing point guard with size would be a nice compliment to Kemba. Samaj Christon from Xavier? Doesn't help with the shooting though. Thinking maybe with the Portland pick here.
  • Defensive center with NBA size? Coach has them playing better on D but how much better would the defense be with an intimidator on the back line? Willie Cauley from Kentucky?

Day dreaming into the new year for the 2014-2015 Charlotte Hornets.

Just as a reminder of where the team has come from..... Take a look at the 2011-2012 roster. Only three players from that team remain on the roster. Two of those guys were in their rookie year in 2011-2012
