So stick with me, this is full of "WHAT IFS."
There is a rumor going around that Isaiah Thomas could be taking over in Detroit as they continue to be awful. Thomas could have been one of the worst executives in basketball in his time with the Knicks. Bad drafting, bad contracts, sexual harrassment scandal, etc.
So why is this good news for the Cats?
Since firing Mo Cheeks, the Pistons have continued to be awful. If they keep losing they will probably keep the pick they owe to Charlotte (top 8 protected this year). Meaning that pick becomes only top 1 protected for 2015.
If Thomas takes over in Detroit, if Detroit keeps that pick this year--it could become EXTREMELY valuable for Charlotte in 2015. Especially if guys like Embiid and Parker go back to school.
Charlotte could be a top 4 contender in the East in 2014, armed with a potential Top 5 pick if Thomas is hired and continues to do what he has done--which is be the worst executive since Rod Higgins.
