Bobcats attempt to avoid sweep in Game 4 vs Miami

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

This could very well be the end of the season, but it could also be one final surprise.

There are a lot of narratives going into tonight. Lets start off with the easy one.

The Bobcats are trying to avoid a sweep. It's going to require a perfect game from Charlotte and maybe some luck. They'll need to make their outside shots. If they can't shoot, they're done for. To go with that, Al Jefferson will have to muster up every bit of basketball ability he has left and put on a herculean performance. Jefferson has been playing on one foot the entire series and has still been averaging a double double. If he can in some way get 20 and 10, he gives the Bobcats that much more of a chance. They will need a big game out of Kemba Walker and for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has to have another Game 2-like performance. That's asking a lot of Charlotte but it's the playoffs and they're playing the favorites to win it all. If the Bobcats are going to stop the sweep then they're going to need above average performances.

After seeing what Miami did in Game 3, I don't think the Bobcats will win. The way the Heat completely shut down the Bobcats offense was an example of how good they can be, and how far away Charlotte is from that level. After Games 1 and 2, there was hope that back at home the Bobcats could steal a game. Game 3 crushed those hopes. At this point the hope is just that the Bobcats compete and go out on a national stage as a team that's on the rise.

Another narrative about Game 4 that's becoming far more clear is that this could very well be the final game with the Bobcats name. Love it or hate it, should the Bobcats lose, Rufus is retiring. Lets hope the Bobcats send him out with a hard fought game and a standing ovation to a season of success. The Bobcats exceeded everybody's expectations this season. Hardly anybody expected them to finish over .500 and make the playoffs. National opinion of the team has changed far and wide. Maybe they can pull out one final surprise and send the game back to Miami for 5.

It's unexpected, but this team has already exceeded expectations before. No reason they can't do it again.
