Ben Gordon to miss rest of preseason to heal his knee

Ben Gordon will sit out the remainder of the Bobcats' preseason schedule after undergoing a procedure to alleviate soreness in his right knee, Rick Bonnell reports.

The recovery time for Gordon is expected to be a week, which should be just about the time the season begins. Should Gordon's recovery run long, it could preclude him from joining the team for opening night against the Houston Rockets on October 30.

Gordon's role in Charlotte's roster is vital due to his shooting prowess, a skill the rest of the team desperately needs. Without Gordon, the Bobcats' ability to space the floor is quite limited unless some of the other guards have shooting nights well above their average. Conversely, Gordon's a flawed defender and the Bobcats defend their opponents much better with him not on the court. It's unlikely that Gordon will miss much time, but if he does, more minutes will go to Jeffery Taylor swinging to the two guard or Ramon Sessions.
