Michael Kidd-Gilchrist under evaluation at hospital

New, comment

Tonight Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, commonly referred to as MKG, suffered a very serious head injury during the game where he was knocked out cold and taken off on a stretcher. This is an update on his condition.

USA TODAY Sports

According to the twitter page of the Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was taken to Houston's Memorial Hermann Hospital after being taken off the floor on a stretcher. Once there, MKG received X-Rays and went under tests. Due to this being a head injury, this was standard procedure.

Coach of the Bobcats Mike Dunlap told reporters that MKG was speaking and moving extremities when he was taken to the hospital. At this time the team does not know if they are going to have MKG stay the night at the hospital or fly with the team to Miami.

While an injury like this is never good there are some positives to take away from this. MKG talking and moving means it's possible he did not injure his spine or neck to the extent many feared, which is a major concern because he was not moving for an extended period of time when he received the injury. The team is also debating whether to have him stay the night at the hospital or fly with the team to Miami so this must mean the injury is not as severe as once feared. The best news of course comes from his Mom's twitter page where she said MKG will be okay.

UPDATE: The Bobcats have released a statement saying MKG has been diagnosed with a concussion and will be staying the night at the hospital. On the positive side an X-Ray and CT Scan shows no additional head or neck injuries.
