Monday Night (Preseason) Basketball: Hornets at Hawks Preview

After last night's comeback bid against the Bulls fell just short, the Hornets take to the floor tonight against yet another division rival in their second-to-last preseason game.

Charlotte (3-3) hits the road tonight, one day after a late rally against the Chicago Bulls fell short. This evening, the Atlanta Hawks (2-3) welcome the Hornets at 7:30 PM. It's the Hornets second-to-last preseason game.

The good news for the team is the first teamers seem to already be in regular season form for the most part. They kept the team alive last night, and special recognition is again due to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, whose offensive game seems to have taken a step up to the next level.

The bad news is the second teamers still have some work to do, to put it nicely. Things should improve greatly for the bench when Gerald Henderson and Noah Vonleh return, but until then, the backups need to find a way to tread the water. They looked lost on both sides of the ball last night, which is the exact opposite of what a coach wants to see this late in preseason.

Gerald Henderson (hamstring), Marvin Williams (elbow) and Al Jefferson (don't worry, he's just resting) are all out tonight (Update: Lance Stephenson is also out tonight with groin soreness), so look for big minutes from guys like Cody Zeller and Jason Maxiell (and perhaps even Bismack Biyombo, who has not seen much playing time this preseason).

The Hawks, who are coming off a 104-100 loss to the Pistons on Saturday night, gave their starters a lighter workload than usual on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how much playing time exactly they will get against the Hornets' starters.
