Charlotte Hornets power forward Marvin Williams is officially listed as doubtful, via the Hornets' PR on Twitter.
Injury Report: @hornets forward Marvin Williams is listed as doubtful for Friday night's game at Phoenix with left knee tendinitis.
— Charlotte Hornets PR (@HornetsPR) November 13, 2014
Williams is averaging 7.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 27 minutes per game with the Hornets this season. He's also shooting a respectable 34.5 percent from deep with 1.3 makes per game, in addition to a career-high 48 percent shooting from the field overall.
The knee tendinitis seemingly came out of nowhere, so it's possible that Williams aggravated his knee in practice. Also known as jumper's knee, patellar tendinitis calls for rest, icing, and elevation of the leg, and when treated properly the ailment tends to be harmless in the long run. It's nice to see the team and Williams taking this seriously.
There's currently no timetable for Williams' return, although his status as "doubtful" does suggest there's a remote possibility he plays against the Suns in Phoenix tomorrow. If not, he should be good to go sooner than later.
In the meantime, his minutes will be eaten up by Cody Zeller and Jason Maxiell. Zeller has been phenomenal this season, which has generated conversation about whether he should start over Williams. This opportunity will provide evidence to his case.
Get well, Marvin.
