A night after letting a winnable game against the Washington Wizards slip away, the Charlotte Hornets bounced back behind the strong play of Gerald Henderson, Kemba Walker and Mo Williams to defeat the Atlanta Hawks 115-100 on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Henderson played one of his best games of the season, finishing with 20 points, five boards and four assists on 9-of-10 shooting. Walker recovered from a horrendous 3-of-17 shooting night against the Wizards to finish with a game-high 21 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Mo Williams used a strong second half to finish with 18 points off the bench. Marvin Williams also chipped in 17 points and Bismack Biyombo was one point shy of a double-double off the bench, as Charlotte (31-41) shot 52.5% from the floor and hit 12 3-pointers.
Atlanta (55-18) rested their starters after clinching the no. 1 seed in the playoffs last night. Kent Bazemore finished with 20 points and five assists, Mike Muscala added in 18 points and 11 rebounds and Dennis Schroder chipped in 17 points and 11 assists.
The win moves the Hornets one game behind the Boston Celtics for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Boston takes on the Los Angeles Clippers Sunday before traveling to Charlotte to take on the Hornets Monday Night.
