Hornets move into 10th place, remain a game and a half back of eighth place

Tonight's win kept the Hornets alive in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Tonight's 102-78 win over the Detroit Pistons helped the Hornets jump ahead of the Indiana Pacers, who lost to the Boston Celtics tonight and are now sitting in 10th. You can read tonight's recap here.

The Pacers lost by 13 to the Boston Celtics in Boston, which keeps the Celtics in 9th but just behind the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets meanwhile, survived a scare from the New York Knicks, winning on a Brook Lopez put back with two seconds remaining.

The Hornets have eight games remaining until the NBA Playoffs, and their next three are vital. Friday's game against the Pacers would even the season series, and put the Pacers in a tough hole to climb out of. If they can win the following night against the Philadelphia 76ers, they have two days off before heading to Miami to take on the heat next Tuesday. A win in Miami would mean Charlotte clinches the tiebreaker against the Heat, and would bring them a game closer (currently the Hornets are two games back of the Heat). All the Hornets can do is pick up as many wins as possible, but they will likely need help to slip into the playoffs.
